Whats the best deal going on synthetic? Looking for 80ft of 5/16 line.

I have a Warn M8000, anyone else have this winch and if so what synthetic ropes are in use on it?

Thanks!

I'm running the Master Pull Super XD line on my Warn 8000.

I love this rope! It has synthetic 'skin' over the main rope.

I have 100' of 5/16" AmSteel from Rockstomper.com on my M8000 and it has served me well for the last 3-4 years. I thought the price was quite competitive at the time.

Earlier this year, I put 80' of 3/8" synthetic Viking winch line on my 8274. I paid more than I might have at some other places, but I like Viking's safety thimble and their customer service before and after the sale was among the best I have ever received.

I wouldn't hesitate to do business with either place again.

not sure about the best pricing or not but I know I have run Viking Winchline from Thor on 2 rigs beating it up and never a problem. I am getting great results pulling the 11,000lb Sportsmobile and very happy.
Plus Viking supports the forum here, then again so does MasterPull :)

Some of the online EBay vendors are selling genuine Amsteel Blue line, but it may be spliced from end cuts, and could contain two or three pieces (or more). So long as the splice is done correctly, then it's not a problem...if it's not then this can affect the overall strength of the rope.

*EDIT* I just looked at those pages you listed, and neither one of them are Amsteel Blue. They don't even list the manufacturer of the line. Their 1/2" line is still not as strong as my 3/8" line...I would spend the money and get a trusted rope from a trusted vendor. /*EDIT*

I just brought some new line in for my brand new Warn 9.5XP from http://www.amsteelblue.com. The pricing is great, and I've bought some from there before for an old 8000lb chinese special winch I had. Bre (the girl I've been emailing with) has been great and I couldn't ask for better customer service! 85' of 3/8", and a 50' piece of 3/8" for an extension, as I lost some length when I stepped up to the 3/8" on the winch. Shipping was fast...coming into Canada through customs and all (it will be in my hands on monday).

I bought my line from Thor a few years ago for my Warn XD9000.
Prior to that I had Masterpull and one of those yellow safety clasp hooks.
I like the safety thimble better, as the safety hook kept freezing up on me here in the PNW.

I smell some marketing BS in those links.

1/2 Dyneema rope with a rating of ONLY 16,500? Even regular Amsteel, not Amsteel Blue, has an average rating of 27,500 pounds. Step up to Blue and youre looking at 34,000 pounds. The pics make it look like regular poly rope.

I just made up an 80' 3/8 winch line for a friend and I can make them for $206 shipped without a hook or chaffe guard. Ive been splicing for better than a year now and can also lay claim to splicing the "string" for the Guinness book of world records largest functioning yoyo. 7/8 Amsteel Blue.

All my splicing is done to Samsons guidelines for class 2, 12 strand ropes.

I'd be afraid to depend on the quality of those...

I was a bit concerned at first, but after a few pulls with a 9500lb winch that required the use of a snatch block I feel very comfortable with at least the 1/2"

why are all the amsteel blue pictured on this thread spliced on the end but the masterpull is using a knot?

The best way to terminate these 12 strand ropes is with a tuck-bury splice. However, like it was already mentioned, MasterPull is using a separate outer layer on their Superline XD. This makes it impossible to do a tuck-bury splice. The triple-overhand knot that they are using though is probably the most efficient knot to use in this situation. The outer sheath also does an amazing job at keeping crud out of the rope, and keeps it in better shape and lasting longer...

From our research the best and strongest way to splice is the direct bury, it is also one of the easiest if done correctly.

We don't splice the XD because of the way the rope is built, with the cover shielding the inner 12 strand rope. The cover does do a great job of protecting the rope, we have seen some over 5 years old that have a cover that looks well worn but the core is still in excellent shape.

As said earlier the yellow safety style hook can seize up if it is not kept greased, I personally don't like this hook but many people do. It is fairly popular in the southwest and other arid regions.

That would be this hook here:

If you guys are looking for a rope with a safety thimble we have recently begin producing our own version called a Winch Stop:
