Exped Storage Boxes

Sorry Phil..here in Aussie they call them Space Cases and they are distributed by ARB as well as others..not sure about the US. This is a link to an Aissie company which is a bit out of date..2007 but gives a good idea about the variations available. Mine are 1100X550X225. They come standard with the shut down clips on the front but provision for them on the side so I drilled out the rivets and shifted them to the side so I could mount it right against the roof rack side rail.

If it came 'with' a gay porno star would you still use them? ;)

I guess that would depend on his 4x4 set-up.. I'm not that easy...

@Nugget.. man your set up is a 5 Star raiting..

I want to see more of what you got in the Hummer of yours.. totally well done mate.

I use those type of boxes - I use ones that are one size narrower than the sizes you see at Costco or Home Depot - and they are made of tougher plastic to boot - I can fit 4 across my 4 runner and they stack nicely - they aren't dust or water proof - but neither are the action packers these replaced. I use 4 of them for tools, spare parts, camping equipment and kitchen

Here is were i got mine - Distribution Container With Hinged Lid 21 1/2x13x11 7/8 Blue

We used something very similar for production storage at work but they no longer needed them. I picked up several but haven't had a chance to really try them out. They are black also and have the "hard to find anything" factor but I am sure they will work better than the old plastic totes we used before. They measure about "24Lx"14Wx"16H (guessing). Only real problem with them is, there isn't a good seal on the tops. I think I may try some type of weather-stripping/seal on one and see how it works out.

Another thing that has came in pretty handy are these. I work for SC Johnson and get a pretty good deal on them. They are great for blankets and sleeping bags!

I am going to try out a couple of these I think. They aren't heavy duty but will probably handle soft goods well.

Those are cool!

For those in areas where they do regular avalanche shooting, check to see what they are using. Many of the crews here in the Wasatch Front are using howitzers I beleive? Anyways they use very similar boxes, longer but similar none the less. The only get two shots out of each box and usually leave them in stacks up on the mountain. The lifty's have a nice bonfire come spring so you have to get them before they do :D

Hard to see in the pics but the wood crates are shown in this pic, I use them at vendor shows as they are easy to pre-pack and make nice dispays. If/when I'm able to get a couple more I'll leave them packed in the trailer.

Personally, I really like those US aluminum medical cases. If they had less latches and a hinge they'd be perfect.

Howitzers, around here, come in metal cans. A local surplus place has them for $18 each. http://www.ribtor.com/

I have about 8 of these 27 gallon containers but, don't use them all at once. Bought at home depot for about $9 each. They are pretty sturdy and durable. Easily stackable and have holes at either ends to run tie down straps through. Lids snap in. Bottom of the containers and lid are ribbed

Those look pretty good. Do you know how they hold up under a ratchet strap, and do they still carry them?

I had 2 rows stacked 3 high on a recent camping trip. I used a rachet strap to hold the containers in place. They held their own and had no issues when I racheted them down really tight. Home Depot has been regularly stocking these. They first came out with a set that had a black cover but from a different company and was $17. For some reason they stopped selling those and sold the ones with the yellow tops for half the price.

I also use one of these with jack-stands, and a floorjack in it and it has held up well bouncing around in the back on my truck.

I'm partial to the surplus Hardigg (now a division of pelican) cases. They are air and water tight (even have a pressure relief valve). I can put them on the roof rack in a storm and drive 70mph with no worries about water ingress. I paid less than $50 ea for them and the are 28x26.5x14 with cam lock type latches and heavy duty metal handles. In short the shiznit.

I was at Lowes last night and saw the yellow/black cheap boxes. They seem to be the best budget option I've seen. I was able to stand on the lid (180lbs) and bounce lightly and it held. Any of the cheap split/folding lid containers I've ever seen can't take much more than 50lbs.
