Doug thorley headers are what people usually get. I'm not sure what other options there are. This sounds like a good idea: any recommended sources for these? Thanks

Unfortunately Doug Thorley currently makes nothing for the 1stgen Tundra double cab.Doug thorley headers are what people usually get. I'm not sure what other options there are.

Huh, guess I assumed they did because they make them for just about every other Toyota with the 4.7 and I could've sworn I'd seen people with them online, but I guess not. Looks like JBA has some optionsUnfortunately Doug Thorley currently makes nothing for the 1stgen Tundra double cab.
Thanks! I am super into itYour old Tundra looks great!
I gotta know more about the silver one on the left, and how they lock down that topper after elevating and letting it back down
Spoken like someone who hasn't owned a 1st gen. 😆 But seriously I think the comparison needs to be with a double cab taco as 1st gen Tundy is better in every way (see visibility) and nearly identical in length and width. 2nd Gen tundra should be compared with like-sized (massive) modern 1/2 tons, which it is better than the competition no doubt. 5.7 / 6 speed / diffs in a first gen is my dream rig.4.7L motor is solid. However, they all have issues with exhaust manifold leaks/cracks. MPG not great. Later ones with 5 speed and VVTI was slightly better. Turning radius is BAD!!! The 2G Tundra is easier to maneuver even with the larger size due to the tighter turning radius. Heck, the Tundra turning circle is the same a the Tacoma (DC w/ 6ft bed). And it turns tighter than ANY full size truck. Both Taco (all) and late model Tundra are better. Suspension not as easily modified compared to 2G Tundra or Tacos.
Other stuff I don't like: dash that resembles the oval era Ford products (Taurus, F150/250s, Expedition) and column shifter (no thanks).
2G Tundra is better in all areas except wider (when fitting in tight spaces). 5.7L dominates the 4.8L in nearly every category: power, mpg, timing chain, etc... Plus better 6 speed transmission and 2016+ trucks have 38 Gallon Fuel Tank (I'd easily travel 600 miles per tank on mine). I've owned a 1998 Taco, 2013 Taco, 2010 Tundra, 2016 Tundra and looked seriously numerous times at the 1G Tundra.

That is the short bed taco, in comparing apples to apples the 4 Dr 6' bed taco is much closer in size to the first gen tundra which also has a 6' bed. See revised chart.
