Is there a 1995 Safari Edition YJ ?

I can't agree here either without more info. I picked up this 2001 TJ for a steal because the mods didn't mean anything to most buyers. I think many dismissed it precisely because of the 4 banger and body damage.

I got a 73K mile Jeep with brand new BFG 33s, 9" rear with CHP 9, front Currie HP D44 ARBs front and rear, SYE, spray on bed liner throughout, Full roll cage and an RE 3.5 Superflex lift.

I asked the questions and bought a tough Jeep for the cost of the front axle. That said, I think the 4 cylinder is adequate at best. Gets 18 mpg around town but I am in the process of swapping in a 4.0.

Still a great deal for me because I actually LIKE working on them.:coffeedrink:

lol....that was my point of a 2.5 vs a 4.0, but if you are going in with the mind set of swapping motors then sure a deal can definitely be had on a 4 bangin Jeep. Though its funny how the thread went from is there a particular trim to TJ vs YJ...:hehe:....and I own neither now!

Thank you all for the input on this Jeep. I was worried about the 4 cylinder having enough power. I will hold out for something with alittle more power.

It really depends on what you're looking for. If you want something that's going to spend a lot of time on the highways then a 4.0L would probably be a smarter move. But if you're just going to stick to back roads and or around town then the 2.5L will be fine. Especially, when properly geared. Gearing is more important when you're dealing with the narrower power band.

BTW: the Safari was probably a regional Dealer 'package'. They seem to do that a lot for some reason. Making up models with stickers and such.

Another jeep site states that a 1995 YJ2.5L with a manual trans, hes 4:10 gears. I plan to tow the Jeep and just use it for exploring. 31 inch tires will be big enough. i will add a winch. On other mods I can think of. He wanted $3000 for the Jeep with 120K. Any other thoughts on this Jeep?

Drive it and see what you think. The 2.5's are a little slow on the highway but the same as any other 4 cyl car. I had an 89 YJ that I drove regularly on the highway, it was fine. The 4.0L is alot better on road than the 2.5L but off road its about the same, you do end up using 4LO more often with the 2.5L but so what. I had 30x9.5 tires on mine, worked great, rode a little rough but its a damn Jeep. I do love my TJ though, it did ride so much nicer when it was stock.

This pic was taken back in 1996...

The only Jeep Safari that comes to mind is this one:

:D

And to address the blanket TJ > YJ statement. The only stock for stock advantages the TJ has over the YJ is the suspension flex and a few interior updates. That's it. Otherwise, both are perfectly acceptable platforms for making whatever sort of expedition vehicle you want. It pretty much comes down to coils versus leaves. Both can be made to flex admirably. Leaves make the YJ a little more difficult to lift, thanks to some moron engineers' decision to make them spring-under. But again, a stupidly large aftermarket makes this essentially moot. CJ, YJ, or TJ, and to some extent the JK, have the largest aftermarket following of any 4x4 make and model, and any of them can be built in any number of directions you choose.

I have experience with all three, and the best advice I can give is to make sure you know exactly what you're getting.

I rewired this CJ with a Painless kit. Which is was .. less than fun, if not especially painless.

Repainted, recarpeted, and unfacked the wiring in this YJ.

And finally decided the TJ was the best for me. Got everything I wanted except a 5-speed.

I can forget about the Safari Edition. It sold for $4200. I think I found a 1993 Sahara,I6 5 speed. with 52000. I will turn it into a Recon Vehicle for the F450 Camper. Thanks for all the help. Now time can be spent outfitting the new Jeep.
