Let's see your Series Land Rover

Hmmm, I thought I replied here once but I don't see it...

Anyway...the red one scoots around town, and the 109 is currently in pieces just about ready for reassembly.

Thought I had as well.

How I got it w/Pick up top, V2, and the final version. Keeping the P/U top as I have a 3/4 canvas option as well.

Thanks - I've had it for years (I think about 15) and was driving it up until about 5 years ago when the water pump developed a leak and I decided it was time to go over the whole vehicle... as you can see I haven't gotten too far yet.

As mine is quite different from how it used to be...

This is how mine looks after fitting the coiler axles and 90SV/RR LSE rims:

A lot of people really don't like it because it has so many Defender bits on it - it was ignored by the commentator on the 2008 Herritage Run at Gaydon and I heard a few comments by bystanders as we drove the cavalcade to the finish line, but it was just a very average 109 hard top when I bought it. Some do seem to like it, though. I'm thinking about a pair of Masai rear windows on the back end, either side of the rear door, next. I'm not sure about their look - they will make the back end look like a TDCI commercial with no rear windows, which I don't like, but they will hide the little bits of corrosion that are starting to appear in the back panels under the paint around the glass and deal permanently with the ever-cracking rubber seals.

Yours is looking very smart in the new paint, Koos. A bit draughty for the Dutch weather, though!

Yes, there will always be people who don't appreciate anything but a standard Series. Oh well... to each their own ofcourse. I get the same reactions, many people find it a total waste of an early SIIa stationwagon. But there are also many people who do appreciate it for what it is. Just like is the case with yours.
I would have loved a drive in that parade as well, just to stirr things up..

Haha, yes, if only it drove as smart as it looks... way too many rattles and vibrations. Some part of the drivetrain is touching the body/chassis on acceleration and it makes a hell of a racket.. I just haven't found the cause yet. It's really terrible and makes for a far from pleasant drive.
Funnily enough it's not that more draughty or leaky as when it was still a stationwagon... unfortunately the canvas hasn't made any difference at all, it's still a tin can and sounds get amplified in the back... Sound insulation is a must and high on the agenda!

For sound deadening, have a word with Drew Wright at Wright Off Road - it's the best stuff on the market and he's a really helpful and friendly guy (he has a SIIA 88 on parabolics and Volvo portals for competitions, still using the original transmission and engine - it's a very interesting vehicle). I know what you mean about rattles, though; I replaced the felt in the sliding side window channels to no avail - the bottom solid plastic channel in the drivers side is a little worn and allows the sliding pane to make a horrible noise close to my ear when driving. I just need to wedge something thin and non-absorbent between the frame and outside of the channel to close its gap a little. I'm going to try the thin leading edge of a black cable tie - it should work well and be practically invisible.

I can't use standard insulation sets made for Series vehicles as I got a totally different trans tunnel and lever layout. The rear passenger and cargo floor are totally different too. I know what stuff I want to use. I just want to get rid of most of the rattles and such first. I got rid of the most annoying one (startermotor hitting 2 of the 3bolts that hold the bulkhead support plate to the chassis on the left hand side on acceleration). But now it developed a new one, it now all of a sudden vibrates more at idle and it resonates through into the rollbar and rear floor area.. bloody annoying!
