M416A1 trailer converted back to M416
Picked up a M416A1 trailer in 2009 from a friend. Had some surface rust and some dents but otherwise was in great shape. Had been sitting up in the Redwoods for a decade or so. Converted it back to a M416 and repainted it with 1960's era military OD complete with markings from my first Armor Battalion that I was assigned as a young 2LT. Went with the traditional army canvass top for two years but after towing it behind a buddies Toyota (my CJ-7 broke before the trip) in Death Valley and having dust over everything, I decided to add a steel top. My father (skeptical looking old fart above) was a big help in stripping down all the paint and rust from the frame, axle and tub.
Named the trailer 'Anabasis' after the ancient Greek historian Xenophon's account of the March of the Ten Thousand - in ancient Greek 'Anabasis' referred to an expedition from a coastline into the interior of a country. Living here in Northern California and always driving east into the 'interior' - I thought it would be an appropriate name.
