Makai,

Thanks again for putting all the time in for these great posts. You truely have a awesome LC that you must be super proud of. I know I would be. Its funny this is always the first thread I look for when I get on EXPO to check for updates..

Do me a favor though, Slow down with all these awesome mods. Your giving some of us MAJOR LC Mod envy. LOL

Question for you, how are the Toyo MT's holding up? Are they wearing well? How many miles do you think you guys have on them? Any issues? With the steep price tag would you buy them again tomorrow?? TIA

Safe Travels!!!

Also interested in the Toyo MT's. How is the weight for driveability, wear, and most importantly the noise? Great build!

No worries...Thanks guys. The Toyo's are worth every penny in my opinion. They balanced well, are wearing even, and continue to look just as sharp as day one (granted they only have ~4k miles). They are a bit on the heavy side when compared to an all terrain tire, that's part of the reason I went with 285's rather than 315's and for some the freeway hum may be a bit to much but, I enjoy the hum all the same. The tires have performed extremely well on road and in dirt, sand, rock, and snowy conditions that I've experienced. I have them aired to 45 psi while on pavement and ~22 on the trails. I've owned BFG AT, MT, Nitto TG, and I can honestly say that these are by far my favorite tire and will definitely continue my adventures with Toyo Mt's. As for price check out Tirecrawler.com and I used them as a reference to buy at Allen Tires in HB. Hope this helps. :sombrero:

Heater Valve Failure

So this morning saw some coolant puddled under the cruiser and sure enough the same FHH from DV worked itself back just a tad to allow the coolant to seep out. Pulled the hose off and noticed that the heater valve hose attachment end was brittle and deteriorating (made of plastic). Talk about luck being on my side and this thing not failing me while out on the trail or stop and go traffic on the 405. Cruiser Dan had one in stock... should be installing on Tuesday. I also ordered Green Gates FHH to replace the silicone hoses. My recommendation is to check your heater valve and it would probably be a good idea to change it when you do your PHH... wish I did. :)

Thank's for the offer, I'm hoping to be done or at least wrapping things up...Hopefully no problems. Stop by for a beer though. I'll PM you my location.

New Heater Valve at 167K miles

Talk about prompt service from C-Dan and 1fzfe-phh.com received both the heater valve and FHH yesterday. The install was very straight forward and uneventful, the gates green hoses were a pain in the butt getting seated all the way though ( that's a good thing). The old heater valve definitely shows its failure on both ends and I can't say my thanks enough that this didn't happen while out on the trail.

Do you need to drain the coolant to do this? Did you try anything on the hoses to make them go on easier - like KY or something?

FireGuy, The first step of the FSM says to drain the coolant from the radiator then there is a hint that says its not necessary to drain out all the coolant. I just cracked the lines and started removing them... minimal coolant loss if any. No lube was used, just rubbed with coolant. I actually got the top FHH on halfway then started and let the LC warm the hose up and with the heated hose was able to seat it the rest of the way.
Can anyone confirm that if the Heater Valve was to fail on the trail that if you had the PHH work around you could bypass the Heater Valve and connect it to the upper FHH U pipe portion. If so this would be a good temporary fix to get you home. :)

Could you measure the distance between the roof and top of roof rack? I'm trying to figure out which rack I can still fit in the garage with.

How do you like your RTT with the family? I know it depends on size, etc. Just wondering...how is the room in there? Thanks

mph, The Eezi-Awn 1600 is as small of a RTT I think you could comfortably go with a family of four. It is a compromise between weight, price, rack space, sleeping space, and practicality. We just happened to come across a used 1600 even though we were planning for a 1800 or larger. From the moment the four of us laid in the tent when checking it out, we instantly knew it was for us. I'm glad we came upon the 1600 as we still have lots of usable space on the rack. As the boys get older the T-top portion provides much usable space down below for them or us. So far I've slept in it by myself more than with the wife and kids, when its just me its feels like a Cali King of RTT's, way to much space. :)
