that's sweet! How does the front end feel with the added weight? Any plans for synthetic line?
We lost 1/2" in height. :) It's hard to tell how much of the way the front end feels now is placebo or real. With the front compressed a little more, I feel like the handling suffers minutely. Brooke drives this sucker around mostly, and she thinks that it lost some gusto off the line. Otherwise, it feels like we're driving a b*tchin' Frontier . . .

And some more shameless promotion for Part 3 of the article series:

Part three was so professionally done and thorough, I had to double check the byline to see who wrote it. Every Frontier owner and 4WD enthusiast, should read through this build for well thought out, properly planned and meticulously installed dual battery, comm & nav products.

Informative, thought provoking and interesting. Well done.

Wow! Did you get lucky recently or something? Is it the Age of Aquarius already?
:coffeedrink:

You're too kind, KC. Gracias. Thought provoking? I'm going to quote you on that one day.
If it weren't for my friends, I don't know if anything good would ever be said of me.

My first post...

A club member posted a link to Expedition Portal website this morning which led to entirely too much time today catching up on this thread!

Per my sig, I too own a 2nd gen Frontier. I factory ordered mine to obtain a Nismo 4x4 with 6-speed manual gearbox (I still prefer to stir gears). My truck is essentially factory equipped with the exception of Shrockworks rocker bars plus new 265/75-16 BFG AT tires installed 300 miles ago. Oh yeah, I saw some posts here about caps/shells. Here's some pics of my Gismo taken a few months ago just after the Leer XQ100 was installed. I like the look and build quality (see how Leer matched the trailing edge contour of the KC rear side window to the Leer's side window).

Right now my truck is daily driver with the Jeep TJ designated as trail rig. Yes but I envision "adventure offroading" in the truck with a sleeping pad and bag in the rear bed protected by that shell. I've been eyeballing Shrockwork's newly released Frontier/Xterra skids. Wallet, stop me now! :D

I suppose I should have created an "Intro" thread rather than replying to Mark's project thread. Oh well...

Thanks for the welcomes in any case!

Aaron,
I had a new '98 Trooper before selling to buy my 2000 TJ. A shame that Troopers are not nearly as respected in the USA as in other countries. I noticed your sig notation on plans for custom sliders and remember talking with Jim Shrake of Shrockworks as I commented on the Trooper imaged on his website. It is (or was) Jim's daily driver. Are you planning on Shrockworks bars?

Don't worry about it.

As you progress with your Frontier, create a thread for it so we can drool and gawk, though. That is a nice Leer cap.

Here's to life, bro. :smiley_drive:

Begin (or continue) Hijack:

Jeff, I was actually planning on having a set of one off sliders fabbed up for the Trooper. I do like the Shrockworks, but look to be a little Plain Jane for me. It is sad that most people do not realize how capable the Troopers are right out of the box in stock form.

End Hijack:

i concur.
mark as i saw on clubfrontier ( i think it was) if you are interested in the unistrut stuff i have been looking into this and found a few pieces that i have picked up at the homedepot. spring loaded "nutplates" as it were that along with the apropiate bolt would mount anything nice and tidy anywhere along the rail as you please and you wouldnt be constrained to the factory notches.

Yeah in my shameless efforts in promoting my project articles in the Nissan world, someone mentioned that UniStrut is compatible with the factory utilitrac.

That made the gears turn in my head about the bed deck I'm building - so I'm thinking about adding on some UniStrut to the outer edges of the deck to run parallel with the truck, giving me a great way to strap things down. The COOLEST thing would be if the factory cleats worked with UniStrut. It would look OEM and be hardcore-custom at the same time. Pretty sweet.

Mark,

Working for an electric utility company we use unistrut everywhere. Including the back of our work trucks. Like you said, we have the unistrut running along the length of the bed with large hooks to hang 2/0 and 4/0 conductor and other misc cords. Using the spring nuts, washers, nuts and 1/2" eye bolts makes for a perfect tie down. You should be able to find spring nuts for an assortment of bolt sizes.
