I ran into a snag that I didn't count on. The splines on the input shaft to the transmission are about 15mm too long. I believe this is due to the flywheel being thicker on the new 4D56's. I'm tearing down the tranny to remove the shaft and have the splines shortened.
 
The engine is sitting in the bay and bolted to the bellhousing. Now to fab up some motor mount brackets when I get back from vacation.

Took it for a 20 mile drive today and it did great! The temp guage goes just a tad higher than the pic below.

It's geared a little low so I'll need to install taller tires. :D

I got the tach working when I got home so next time I'm out I'll get some rpm vs speed numbers. Taking it this afternoon for exhaust.

Got the truck back from the exhaust shop, had them run 2.5" with no muffler. Drove it to work this morning (20 miles) and it did great. After I get a couple hundred miles on it, install boost and pyrometer guages I'll do some tweaking with the fuel screw and wategate to get a tad bit more fuel into the system.
After that I'll start looking into installing an intercooler.
