Land Rover introduces rooftop tent for Defender 110 - Autoblog
The official roof top tent is here for the 2020 Land Rover Defender 110. Autohome and Land Rover collaborated on a bespoke design.www.autoblog.com
If my eyes are not tricking me that looks like it has Autohome on it. It’s close, but not identical, to the Columbus model, which starts at $3k on it’s own, and if you want a black one it’s around $3300-$4k depending on size. Seems like LR is actually pretty competitive on pricing, and thankfully it looks like they’ve gone with a reputable partner and not just ordered their own brand of tents from one of the big factories - as we’ve seen in the product lifecycle of many RTT companies, it takes a few production runs to get things right, and hopefully partnering with Autohome will avoid that.
The idea of being able to lump all the accessories into a turn-key expedition vehicle is nice too, as that also typically comes with some peace of mind from warranty coverage for dealer-installed accessories (not in all cases, just often).

Angels dancing on the head of a pin is soooo 17th century...now it's how many dead sheep can fit in a Defender. Was about to comment on that being a pretty decent price for that tent if sold by Autohome via JLR.......might want to price check hard top RTT.....looks pretty close to ballpark range.
Boom Boom Boom.........picking the right partners says there is a confidence level on both sides.
And please stop saying Sheep; you can't say Sheep anymore cuz the snowflakes gets triggered.
Wait, are we actually going back to talking about putting dead Sheep in our cabs in 2020 still..............?

I think they’re just using the name. Honestly a more accurate name would be “utility” like the later last gen 110’s. A pop top is still possible with a fixed roof they did with the LR3/4 and newer unibody vans.I am wondering — the article mentions that the old “Hard Top” moniker was applied to an old Rover with a removable roof, but it doesn’t mention anything about the Defender having a removable roof — just that they are borrowing the name.
Am I right in that interpretation?
A removable roof would really open the options up for things like a Camper conversion, similar to what’s offered on the Troopy by AluCab.
