New Defender Rage/Hate Thread

Land Rover Austin is really right in our more Expensive Zip code ? on the Lake right off down town of the edge of the entertainment district, But Austin is a Compact City.

It's located in Motor City, literally one block up from the Ford dealer, which is also within a one mile radius of Porsche, Volkswsgen, Hyundai, Chevy, Honda, Volvo, MB, Jeep, Acura, ...

LR specifically told me the reason they picked 'motor city' is the proximity to the Broadmoor and old money. I get that. So would I. Next likely site in the Springs? .......... Interquest

Years ago when I was looking for a 95 RRC LWB the most likely cities/urban areas were Houston/Austin, Northern NJ, FL, Southern CA. Outside those areas LR was non-existent. That wasn't long ago. The late 90's.

I've been defending (ha!) Land Rover a lot in this thread, but I have some rage/hate of my own to share....

There is absolutely no way to search for an in-stock Defender equipped with the rear locking differential anywhere in the US, and if there were a way to search for it, you would probably not see any results anyway because the stupid dealers did not order any of them with the locker.

It's like the dealers are bending over backwards to prove all the haters and trolls in this thread correct. The thing can be kitted out to be a proper off roader, but good luck finding some steel wheels. I realize that, just like the Wrangler, most of these will never see dirt, but at least throw us a bone by ordering a few of them with knobby tires, would ya???

Land Rover: this is an incredibly capable vehicle, check out these shots from Moab and Namibia
Dealers: nah, but can I get some of that wood grain on the interior???

Namibia was staged. Scottsdale Fashion Square is the real test.

Man, look at that uppity rich person's neighborhood, with all those bougie businesses like... checks notes Walmart, Chevy, Ford, GMC Preowned, Discount Tire, and Budget Car Rental.

Just stop, you're embarrassing yourself.

30+ years ago C Springs was a LOT smaller, a bedroom and retirement community. Homes were on the order of 900 sq ft. UCCS, the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs was located in / leveraged the old sanatorium for tuberculosis treatment.

The Tiny Tuberculosis Huts of Colorado Springs
Tourism was THE economic driver. The Broadmoor is 5-star. Worldwide known.

Edit add: The CS LR dealers initial location was a NAPA parts store.

Ford F-150 setting the new high bar ...................

New Ford F-150 will 'set a new bar' with sleeper seat, onboard generator, exec says
The pick-up truck includes a sleeper seat that lays flat

FORD STUDY SAYS AMERICANS WOULD GIVE UP STREAMING, BOOZE, SEX OVER THEIR PICKUP TRUCKS

"This truck is going to set a new bar in terms of capability, torque, payload, towing that our truck customers need," LaNeve told FOX Business' Stuart Varney. "We’re going to have a hybrid version that will get great fuel economy and have an onboard generator that can actually power a whole work site or your home for a short period of time."

Um, OK. It could also be because when they constructed the dealership it was the part of the city that was zoned for car dealerships and with property available.

Do you think Ford, Honda, Jeep, and Hyundai were being hopelessly optimistic?

And for such a toney zip code, it would seem ironic to find the largest Subaru dealer by volume in the United States also within walking distance of JLR.

It's literally called Motor City.

If you think LR didn't participate in the seeding of the NA market through what product was delivered, you are being really really naive.

There is a reason LR Colorado Springs is located in zip code 80906 .................... The Broadmoor".......
Real Estate Prices and Overview
Broadmoor median real estate price is $885,565, which is more expensive than 92.9% of the neighborhoods in Colorado and 93.7% of the neighborhoods in the U.S.
The average rental price in Broadmoor is currently $2,276, based on NeighborhoodScout's exclusive analysis. The average rental cost in this neighborhood is higher than 82.8% of the neighborhoods in Colorado.....
."

Your $2276 is about $1k shy of our median partner and our JLR is right on the same blocks in SoCal just as every other dealership; Domestic and International in almost every city except the Bujjjjjjjj you must be used to. So we should fault JLR from wanting to sell an overpriced vehicle to those who will pay significantly over priced for homes and lifestyle? I'm not taking anything away from anyone who lives there; great neighborhood and people and they choose to pay for that premium lifestyle to meet their lifestyle needs and if the marketing says a dealership can make money there and not somewhere else because of this or that, how can you honestly fault this thought process?

You realize we are halfway 2020 which by my math is at least 21 years from your late 1990's comment! So yeah if you consider SoCal (Beverly Hills), Austin, and Broadmoor as your metrics I would say you are going to pay a premium there for a premium auto sale; kind of how marketing works. We have a ton of JLR dealerships in SoCal, Marc, BMW, Lexus, etc.; all relatively in the general vicinity of each other.

There is this little thing that marketing strategist go by and that are sales; if you do not own a lot in that market, you do not put up a multi-million dollar dealership.

Like guys ********** about JLR being never making a comeback and joyful to see the demise or being successful and then ********** when they do not have a dealership in their neighborhood that they won't buy from anyway; why does it matter to you I guess is my question?

I don't care that Lambo, Lotus, Tesla, Bugati dealers, etc are not near me cuz I don't buy their stuff...............like boat dealers; great to see them when I drive right by cuz I am not in their market but West Marine does sell nice wiring and Marine Grade kit...woot woot.

Bill is a big LR fan and has been driving them/training Offroad driving in them for decades. The smallest rim is 18” and the largest tire is 31”, I believe. Please correct me if I’m wrong. Honestly, you can’t wheel in Moab with 18” rims/31” tires. Setting aside the fact that you need 12” of clearance, which the Defender comes nowhere close to achieving, the profile of those tires is way too high and you can’t air down to crawl over most Moab rocks. You couldn’t drag the new defender over Poison Spyder or Steel Bender, let alone some of the more challenging trails.

Bill is a big fan of his RV and trailer. The beat up LR is just an image.

Funny while Land Rover Jaguar of Austin is Down Town. Ferrari Of Austin “so weird that’s a thing” is on the Motor Mile with all the other dealers. :ROFLMAO:

You do Appear to be generally misinformed.
Perhaps YOU can’t wheel in Moab with 18’s and 31’s. People have been doing just that for a very long time. Including corporate Land Rover using bone stock Range Rovers on 20’s.

I very well could be misinformed. I’m not a LR hater, however, I absolutely love the old Defenders. Went to Tanzania last year and saw noting but old LRs on our safaris. Meet me in Moab, the last Monday in October, and we’ll drive Poison Spyder or Top of the world. Your choice. If you can drive your unmodified defender up any one if these trails, without getting stuck, I will purchase a defender in 2021. I’ll be in the market for a new 4x4 by then. I assume you may be a LR dealer.

Have you ever been to Moab, Canyonero? Your comments certainly don’t sound like you have and certainly not seen a modern LR on the trail. As mentioned, LR takes their stock vehicles on these trails currently with the new Defender only being more capable

Yes, I was there for a week last October. I recall seeing a group of new LRs (beautiful vehicles) being professionally guided up Hells revenge. They avoided the obstacles, however, and simply took the same path that I assume the Subaru took in the video above. They went really, really, really slow and we were covering our ears hearing the undercarriage of those beautiful vehicles scrap on the slick rock. Meet me the first Monday in October. I selected pretty easy trails.

I should add that the local LR dealer, previously a NAPA store and now a used car lot, was Land Rover only. Jaguar was not offered in C. Springs. C. Springs population was less than 200,000. 'Motor City' and the population has grown much over the last 30/40 years. Perspective is important.
