Well, I found some time around Thanksgiving to escape the family for a little while and cut some holes in the Jeep. I figure since the holes are now bigger and its drafty inside the Jeep, it'll motivate me to weld in new metal faster!
As I started cutting, the holes seemed to get bigger and bigger just to find good metal to weld new pieces to...
I also hit all of the bare exposed metal with paint until I can weld in some new metal....

An old friend from Highschool called me Thanksgiving evening and was in town visiting at her Parent's house which overlooks Broad Bay in Virginia Beach.
Well, after a few cocktails, I decided it wasn't a good idea to drive home, so I opted to camp in the backyard and enjoy the full moon!

Yah, I always leave the rainfly on when the tent is stored. As long as you tuck it in with the rest of the tent and watch it when zipping up the cover, you'll be fine.
I actually just started doing some research last night on synthetic spray-on protectants for the tent after finding moisture inside the tent. I found Aqua-Tite Green after reading a few sites. I read that it's one of the best for waterproofing. Cheapest that I found a gallon of it was on Amazon for $88.99 shipped. Expensive, yes, but I'm hoping it will make the tent and material last for years and years!

When I got home I deployed the tent again and sprayed it with a hose and found the same moisture inside. Some of the seams are getting to look a little stretched. I bought this RTT used and the original owner said he used it maybe 10x since purchasing new around 1998. I see the Aqua-Tite as cheap insurance that will hopefully keep the material protected and leak free!

You've got a classic! It's great to know they hold up that long. It's a major purchase that's hard to justify, but amortized over 20 years, the cost is negligible.
It might be worth it to seal the seams before treating the rest of the tent. I've had great results with Seam Grab on cheap ground tents. The pharmacy at my local CVS gave me a free syringe and I bought a cheap make up brush to apply with. Squeeze a bit of the Seam Grab into the syringe, run an 8" - 10" bead along the seam, and brush it in until the thread darkens, indicating permeation.
