Packing Heat...who does it?

Good discussion but all I really wanted to know was who carried a gun, not if you didn't, and what you carried.

I didn't want a debate on carrying a gun.
LOL!

In the boonies a Taurus PT92 is at my side, a S&W 357 is nearby and my trusty little Winchester 30-30 is in the back.

A friend and I were up in the San Bernadino Mountains in a kind of a far off camp ground during the week. There was not a sole in that camp ground but us. Friday morning my friend went on a short hike taking his firearm with him.
about 30 min after he left a truck pulled up and set up a camp.
I waved they waved back. So two guys from the camp walk over and asked
if I had any ice to spare. I told them no because I have a ARB fridge.
They left. A few min. later they walk back and just grab the ARB from stand.
Hey. I attempt to stop them. I get clocked hard. As I get up they start walking back and the 1st guy say what else you have? (They did not know I
had someone with me) So the guy says to his friend. This will be just
like last 4th of July as he puts his fist into his open hand. Just then
my friend walks up and says whats the problem. The guy starts tords him
and my friend pulls his gun. They stop. He sends one to get the fridge while
we keep his friend. We get the fridge back. I pack up while he keeps guard
then we got the heck out of there and called the police when we got a cell phone signal. Come to find out they had escaped prison one for assault and the other for drugs. So I now carry. If my friend was not there I have no doubt that I would at least had my MMM kicked. I have to tell you it took me hours to calm down. Keep in mind we were always on paved roads. This was not that isolated.
I now have a sig 220 .45 and self defense training for the use of that hand gun.

I did not read this entire thread. So excuse me if this has already been pointed out.

In the state of California, if you are transporting a gun it must be:

1. Unloaded (if a handgun, no magazine in the gun).

2. It must be in a separate lockable compartment of the car OR in a locked case. Glove compartment or center console IS NOT LEGAL.

If you are not in a vehicle, out of any city limits (say on BLM land, you may carry the sidearm loaded and visible. You may not carry concealed at any time unless you have a CC permit.

All that said, I keep an COLT Officer's Model .45 ACP and do have it available when I am camping in an area that I feel warrants it. There are some bad people out there.

I didn't want a debate on carrying a gun.

Glock 9C 9mm ported with a Competition Trigger
(Smoothest Gun I've ever shot and can double tap holes in the bullseye all day long from 15 yards)

S&W SW9 9mm ported
(Shoots great, but only carry it as a back-up, mostly stays in the safe in the camper)

Benelli M4 Super 90 at the Bed Side in the Camper

For me, the best shot gun on the market, although I've never shot the much touted Beretta. I can say its the only shot gun I can double tap 3" magnums and I'm a small guy at only 5'5"

Dont want to get into the debate, you asked what I carry, that's all I'm telling ya:victory:

I carry all the time, TOTJ's story illustrates why. I also think about the little
episode in Killeen way back when if I need any justification or motivation.

I carry all the time but all of you guys who are scared or nervous around people that carry, you will never have to worry about it because you will NEVER know when or how or what I may have on me.

I do not brandish my weapons. Around a campfire, if I am with like minded people we might get into a gun discussion and it isn't uncommon....with like minded people to have a little "show and tell" session with weapons of different varieties. It isn't any different than showing off any other piece of gear.

However, if you do not like guns or are uncomfortable around them, hey to each his own. I'm fine with that too. The point is, you will never know most likely. I have no problem with people who don't like guns. I only have problems with people who want to take my guns away from me.

I am also sure I can speak for any other responsible gun owner here. The last thing I ever hope to do is point a weapon at someone. I NEVER go into a situation thinking that because I have a gun on me I am safer or that it might get me out of that situation. It is a last resort tool only. I know if I have to use it that there is a good chance I might not live through the encounter. Things would have to be a 14 or 15 on a 1-10 ugly scale first.

Just a question to the folks that have said "yes":

Why would you publicly advertise, on an open forum, that you carry?
I have a permit to conceal which is public knowledge.....whether or not I am is...just something you would have to take a chance on ....the odds of a bad guy checking me out before he or she comes to my camp is just nill.....:REOutShootinghunter

Btw....its a 357

Good story, and very possible that it could happen to anyone here:Wow1:
