A Day of Stupid Little Things...
Ever have one of those days where you set out with great intentions and expectations and you get to the end of the day and you feel further behind than where you started?
Thats today.
I set off to the junkyard with a list of parts I needed.
Fuel tank (I want to shorten one and still be able to drive the van until its ready for a Tcase)
Tranny Crossmember (I want to lengthen one and still be able to drive the van until its ready for a Tcase)
Drivers side weather stripping
Mating flange for my 10.5" rear end to a 1350 Ujoint
ABS Plugs...
Every fuel tank out of 10 was heavily dented. Useless. Every tranny crossmember out of 10 was bent. Useless. I found 1 van with decent weather stripping. Bingo. Not one 10.5" in the whole yard. Useless. And you know what is more useless? Making new parts when you don't need new parts.
A la the ABS sensors these Vans use as compared to their Super Duty truck bretheren. See, the tucks have the male fitting on the axle cable. The vans have the male fitting on the system side... Why? I have no idea. All I know is I found a set and snipped them off, now I have the female connectors I have to wire into the brake system harness. Just one of those things...
$5 and this is fixed.
But one beacon of light, I found something to replace my Custom Fake Nonfunctional Vents.
Those should look pretty good on there...
And to cap off my day, I pulled my driveshaft and headed down the road to the local shaft shop. Where, I found out, different 10.5" rear ends have different sized pilot rings on their pinion flanges! Did I measure this before I drove 30 minutes to the shop? NO! Of course not...
So, Shaft Shop Seargent sent me home with a companion flange to try (which of course has too large of a ID on the pilot...) and I left my shaft there so tomorrow I can just call with the correct dimension and he can get me all set up with a new Ujoint/flange combo.
And because I am a Man, I am upgrading to 1410 ujoints, because thats what Men do.
