Looks good....:luxhello:

So, how close did the top get to the ceiling in their shop when it was on the lift ? or did they just floor jack it ?

LOL, I didn't dare look. I just heard all the other patrons mumbling 'what IS that?' and 'why is that so big?!'

Nice! All that you've done took me like 3 months! I had to learn everything from nothing, but it still took me a really long time... Keep up the pace! It's inspiring! And now I have someone to look up around town when I can't figure stuff out :) I'll have to keep my eye out around Golden! You over by Mannie & Bo's?

SWEET! Thanks! I don't have MUCH bumpsteer, but I could always go for less!

Also, another benefit to that massive rear window? I can see EVERYTHING behind me! No pillar in the middle! Makes me want to keep my tire carrier design low..

Wow!! :Wow1:

That is really great! I was wondering what a really focused, experienced, shade tree wrench could do putting one of these together.

I'm sure you're thinking about interior options. What direction are you headed?

Great work!!

Well USUALLY I consider myself a 'Backyardshop Wrench', but since this wouldn't fit, I had to become a 'Shadetree Wrench'. Totally not my fault! And, without a shop full of tools, this would take someone a LONG time.

For example, do you have a drill that can turn a 3/4" bit? Do you HAVE a 3/4" bit for steel? Do you have a plasma cutter or a right angle drill? Do you have a welder? How about an impact gun? High quality long handle prybars? Not having these on hand would slow you down. I have gotten to the point that I rarely don't have a tool in my arsenal for the job at hand. Typically when I need a tool for a project, I just BUY it, and never get rid of it :)

Interior? I have some ideas... More than that, I have a critical path of needs to help me design it. I, like everyone, have a certainly lifestyle that I need to account for when thinking about how the Vantom should be laid out.

For me it comes down to 3 basic needs.

Bedding
Food
Navigation

I cover the Western half of the US as a sales territory, so I plan on doing a lot of weekend camping/work week working/weekend camping in this rig. My longest stay IN the van will be maybe a week, but typically long weekends.

I am tallish, and heavyish. Comfort while sleeping is important to me, so one way or another the bed will be about a queen size. It will be located at the rear of the van and may or may not be 'collapsable' to some degree

Food-wise, I have a very particular diet to maintain (think 6 meals a day, 7 days a week), and (cold) food storage capacity will be important. If I can't find the perfect fridge/freezer combo, I may run 2 separate units, one fridge, one freezer. Additionally, I have one of these, which i LOVE:

Camp-Chef-TB90LW-rw-43210-49228.jpg

And it will likely be on a slide out coming out the back doors, along with the rest of my cooking gear. A microwave is critical (see frozen food needs), and nothing less than 1000W will do, so I will need a robust inverter, and likely a nice solar array on top to keep the fridge(s) going all week long.

Navigation. Beside needing to get random places between Kansas City and Los Angeles with ease, finding local gyms is of significant importance to ME. I know its silly to some, but again, different strokes. So if anyone knows of a nice GPS head unit that fits our vans, let me know!

Lastly, little things. I have to dress 'up' for work, so having a small closet for a few pairs of slacks and dress shirts will be a must. I'm not worried about a TV, I tend to entertain myself pretty well out of doors, but a bookshelf? That's not a bad idea...

Somewhere in that list of projects I will probably have a sink and clean water tank, no grey water (maybe a composting port-o-let someday) with an exterior shower handle connection would be superb for washing down after a day of mountain biking in Moab or something. (Thinking about it, this may move up my list.. )

Anyhow, sorry to ramble, my head is always thinking about how to organize and lay things out to maximize the utility of the vehicle.

Loving this build. Looks so much better now that the decals are off and the new wheels and tires are on. I don't envy the work you have ahead of you cleaning up the current wiring and adding to it for the future interior. Keep up the great work!

So, I need to add a plasma and welder to my list of neat stuff to have around the house. I guess a shop would help too. :coffee:

Fortunately, SWMBO is generally pretty supportive if something is "needed" for an ongoing project. Just a matter of working the timing of letting her know when it's needed......

Some of the best interior ideas I've seen on the site, of which there are hundreds, tend to lead me towards kind of a nautical efficiency.

The fold out or drop down platforms for bedding seem a wise way to go in terms of maximizing and allowing re-purposed space. The pull out kitchens also seem to have a great deal of flexibility and provide compact stowage.

Looking forward to see how you tackle it! I'll say you're doing a bang up job so far!!

Nice work. It seems like yesterday you bought that monster. You're not messin' around !!!

Lol, it WAS almost yesterday! I jump to projects pretty quick...

Surprisingly, aside from the 110V lights inside, and the lights in the top out back, everything seems to work!! Now, I think I might make a separate bus bar for the power instead of a giant bolt of the battery... but other than that, I think it may be a lot 'less bad' than it looked originally. So much of the wiring was just integrated into the massive desk, and now thats gone and with it a ton of wiring problems!

Well, that slide-out kitchen from under the bed will work PERFECT with those half-doors.

You know, this thing is REALLY tall, I can't really imagine what I would need the top halfs of the doors open for anyhow!

Plasma is a MUST. Its rare to find a good deal on a used one (like the one i got for $100) on craigslist, but keep your eyes peeled! Lots of times people are looking to sell their MIG and Plasma together, package deals should be looked at strongly.

I'm with you on the nautical efficiency, I spend HOURS looking through this site and bookmarking page after page with idea that I like. In fact, at what point does bookmarking something become just 'an entire website'?

Thanks for the kind words!!

a couple things to look into for compact/multi-space use:
happijac motorized bed lift. we've got a set of queen size beds in the back of our travel trailer. the lower is motorized to raise to the ceiling. when it gets to teh upper bed, the upper bed is also lifted up. heavy, but way convenient.
murphy bed.

Consider a hammock bed that hangs from the wall and ceiling. Easy to make out of pipe and a heavy woven fabric like you would find on lawn furniture. Our local fabric stores stocks this material. It could simply roll up and store out of the way when not in use by removing the two end pieces of pipe. Just a thought.

Front end should be all done!

I also took my first stab at setting up my interior. What do you think?
