I'm going to keep this thread alive with info as we go and in the next 5 or 6 months we will continue on for 20,000km around Australia, so that will be worth sticking around for :)

i have only just found this thread and read the last few pages, so need to get time to go back and read the start of it. Looking forward to following your adventure as you travel around Australia, happy to try and help out where i can with information on places to see and stay at when you start heading further North.
Cheers

Hey Mal!

Thanks for following. There is a little bit of info on here, most of the reading is over on our website: www.siroccoverland.com go to trips routes/reports and click on the 2013. From there should be a list of all the right blog posts for our trip, start to finish (almost, we still have Mongolia and Siberia to finish off). Most of the photos are over on our Facebook page to.

Australia may have to wait a little while now as we are looking at our visa options differently now. I may get an independent skilled migrant visa so we are not tied to one place/employer. It costs a lot of $$$ but would free us up over the next 4 years which is how long I would have to work for to gain perm residency. So there is saving for the visa and saving for the trip.

Plenty of time to plan though :)

Yer that would be great. when we get on the road there will be updates here, on the site and FB.

Our plan was always to leave the UK on a permanent basis and live/work here in Aus where the $$$ is strong. We are going to be here for a few years I imagine, the economy in Europe is pretty dire compared to here. Especially for a geologist.

We will see how things pan out, only been in country for 5 weeks but I have been working for 2 of those! If your down in Vic, give us a shout.

A collection of our best and most memorable wildcamps from our trip. By Wildcamp I mean no payment was made to camp. Not always out in the sticks, we camped next to kebab shops, reservoirs, in peoples gardens, in harbours, quarries, closed campsites, driveways etc etc We had 116 of these through 8 months.

AWESOME! Great work with the images.

Did you find our Overland Journal and E7 sticker on the silver building?

Yes we did Scott, it was one of the 1st I recognised :) I do have a close up pic somewhere after I hand scrawled our trip details on it. The 'building' is actually an old fuel storage container/cell. It was insulated and converted. Its open in the winter when temps are down to -60.

Interestingly on our return route they had run out of Diesel but I saw a guy get some from around the back and paid in shotgun shells. I even offered double for some fuel but they wouldn't give us any. In the end I managed to get 30L out of the construction guys around the corner after we camped out next to the fuel place for 24 hours. The next fuel stop was over 400km away.

Yer it was pretty cool thanks. 1st time we have had a chance to get out since arriving here. Enjoyed the tracks inland through the Otways, plenty of wildlife etc. Will get some photos up soon :)
