I am interested to see how thw Hella 500 vs IPF 868 differ so I installed them side by side...

Both are 55watts Hella driving pattern, IPF driving and fog?

Here's a pic........its not a stock bumper but you get the idea how they fit.

The 500s are actually a really good light to use if you are concerned about air flow as they are really thin. If you mount them far enough forward air will flow around them.

On an early mini truck or 4 Runner you can pull out the rivet looking carriage bolts on the very front edge of the bumper. Replace with longer bolt and the lights will mount right up on the stock bumper. Being that these lights are so thin this works. I don't have a picture but I ran them this way on my 87 mini truck.

Automotive ADHD is fun!
There are some 500FF's on ebay for around $40 if you prefer to be all modern (and use the H3 bulbs)...

Now I just gotta wait for the 700FF - 500 looks downright petite on my beast!

To bad I didn't see this thread earlier, I would have picked up a few when they were a bit cheaper than $47 a pair

how does the beam pattern compare to the IPF 968s? I'm looking to replace mine, and hell - these might just work.

very narrow, the IPF spread the light, however the Hella 500 seem to throw more light ahead on a more narrow beam also I do not know if because the narrow patter they seem to have more bright light, but then the IPF's light up to the sides and fron more evenly.

I will try to take some pictures tonight!

Really? I recently mounted an older set of 500's on my dad's truck, and I find the beam to be pretty wide, with not much throw compared to my FF1000's.

1st picture-IPF to the sides
2nd picture-Hella 500 directly in front-more light!

I will play some more tonight with different angles!

Your Daylighters are very bright, what model are day; a friend of mine likes them alot but I never payed attention to his recommendations!

They were originally 130w sealed beams, but I blew one and upgraded to the 150w sealed beams. I think you can get the whole kit on amazon for like $120. I freaking love them, that's just two sealed beams - you can't even tell when I have the four lights on the roof turned on when the daylighters are lit.
