Surprised no one is discussing the Cybertruck today.

Where do they move to? Been searching and found nothing that would support this statement.

Swiss primarily move to neighboring European countries... which have higher taxes and bigger social programs, and score worse for economic freedom. Switzerland is #2 in the world! And they aren't moving to #1 either.
Well I can tell you the country in the world that everyone wants to get into- many threaten to leave but never do. Those stats tell me more than a think tank with an agenda. It’s also the same country that every other “free” country in the world has on speed dial. The caller id comes up as “Daddy”

Now it would be neat if Tesla would work on bringing out a real truck. Maybe an American electric version of that Toyota $10,000 thing for those of us living and working in the real world. A basic 4x4 with a basic cab and box or configurable flatbed that can actually be used like a truck.

The canoo will be the closest to that- if it ever makes it to market. They claim to have started production.

This one is adorbs and actually quite practical but will likely not make it

Lucid is also rumored to be working on a pickup. Rivian is currently breaking ground on a plant to build the smaller R2 generation.

I would suspect there are quite a few people we’ve never heard from working away in a garage right now.

The R2 is actually not very large its a 2x2 seating configuration. The Ford Maverick has similar seating dimensions its something many people are surprised by when they actually sit in one.

Yep, as a former old Ranger owner yourself. The Maverick is really not that small.

Again, I’m probably in the minority but I could use a smaller “new” Ranger with more utility. I am jealous of the Mavericks 4x8 plywood carrying ease.

Remove the silly truck bed (talk about lack of utility of pickups!) and replace it with something more sensible. If it's a flatbed that's tall enough to clear the tires, you'll have lots of space underneath for stuff too. Make it 80" wide, and a foot longer. I was surprised that the Ranger advertises a 72.8" bed length... I thought they were quite a bit shorter...

Yup like the Aussie trays with the lower storage compartments. Those should be standard equipment.

I got a 4x8 in my Expedition recently. First SUV I’ve had that would do this. Former Toyota guy. 4x8 hauling isn’t a Japanese thing 😆

The Rivian I like. Waiting to see what Canoo is really going to do. I like the look of that, too

Rivian display at OEX 2019 in Flagstaff. They’ve been with us here for a while.

I like Canoo as well. Before the Cybertruck was revealed I was really hoping it was going to be something that was a complete change in truck layout, something far more practical.

More utility in a smaller footprint. Canoo hits that, so does Telo. Obviously cab-over designs aren’t new but traditional full size truck design is long overdue for a kick in the pants.

Iteration is so slow, and I don’t see the bean counters allowing a clean sheet design at legacy auto.

Those 80’s Rangers were small, 2.9 was what 150hp? The only bad thing was the pump seal in the AT failure. The dealers got pretty good at replacing it. The manual was definitely better choice. Pretty sure the engine was Mitsubishi sourced.
The 2.9 Ford V6 came out in 1986 with fuel injection and 140 HP. The earlier V6 was a carbureted 2.8. It was 100% a Ford engine although developed and even manufactured by Ford in Köln, Germany. I had one and while very good for the time, it was much less powerful and less refined, while using more fuel, than the much-hated 3.5 V6 in my 3rd gen Tacoma.

What's so outdated and impractical about a pickup truck? If anything, the Cybertruck is among the least practical truck. Sure its stats are more like a k1500 series but, all the other silly stuff like raked bed rails? Ranges from impractical to pain in the ass to useless. Something isn't outdated if it fits the bill and does what is needed. Horsepower ( of some sort ), driver and shotgun, and cargo. That's what a truck is. Yes it comes as a direct descendant of the horse and wagon with the driver on a bench a la the Ingalls family. But that's what it needs: a power plant, a place for the driver, and a place for the cargo.

4x2, 4x4, AWD options. Half ton F150/ k1500 options. Or 3/4 ton F250/ K2500 or full-ton 3's. S-10 / quarter ton size. Bare bones Work Truck or Denali. Racks, covers or caps. For work or camping. Whatever.

We had hybrids from GM about 10 to 15 years ago, as short lived as they were. Now there are already fully electrified pickups out there from GMC, Ford, Rivian, (finally the) Cybertruck, soon to see Canoo I hope.

If a truck needs to do X, then it stands to reason that if you design it where it is new but does not do X well, then it wont be a great truck.

Crash testing requirements have pretty much killed cab-over/cab-forward designs in the US. The Canoo is styled as such, but you sit pretty far back... still better than most trucks for sure.

Wish we had a light-quadcycle class like they do in Europe. I'd prefer a simpler, cheaper, and lighter rig than anything they will sell here.
