Nice job. This has been an excellent project and very inspiring. Sorry about the tailgate, but it looks like you got it easily corrected and increased the character of your truck in the process.
Can't wait to see it with the can holders in place.

Rear bumper final stage minus can holders!
Thanks for all the compliments, they are much appreciated. Technically the project is not 100% complete because I’m missing the Can Holders however they will be an easy addition at a later point.
I was looking over my initial design criteria (re-listed below) and found that this bumper meets every one of them except for the Hi-Lift mounting location. I’m happy with it’s current location inside the shell where it’s protected from the elements and locked. It took a bit more time due to all the other things going on with life these days, but that’s how it goes. I had to be patient with the build, but the final product was worth the wait. Overall I’m very happy with the end result.

Mmm… let’s see at the rate it took to build this one in about 3 to 4 months
What’s one more battle scar on the rig at this point to go along with all the pinstripes or should I call them straight out scratches? As for the AT Can Holders, I’m waiting for word back from the good folks over at Adventure Trailers to get back to me. I’ve been in touch (more like pestered the heck out of them) and from what I understand they are still in the process of selecting a fabricator for the next batch of holders. Hopefully they will start manufacturing them shortly so that I can place my order.
Good thing you were there cracking the whip! Thanks for the good words. I really enjoy making items such as bumpers and sliders myself.
For the Can Holders I’m going with a set of Adventure Trailers Can Holders.

Design criteria:
- Weight is a concern, so I want to find a balance between strong yet no too heavy.
- Versatile. My rig is used as a DD, for exploring, camping, hunting, fishing, sometimes towing ( a few times a year perhaps). I need it to be functional yet versatile.
- I don't want to remove the spare from the stock location.
- Location to carry Scepter Military cans (Fuel and Water) would be a benefit and they must be lockable..
- Location to mount Hi-Lift would also be a benefit and it must be lockable.

What do you estimate that the bumper weighs? I know that you'd said that weight was a concern and you wanted to keep it as low as possible, yet still have the necessary strength.
I'm wondering, because at some point I want build one of these and I too am concerned about weight past the rear axle.

Honestly at this point I'm not sure. I had planned on using a bathroom scale during the install to weigh it before the install but got pressed for time. I will take the time to weight when the weather warms up in a few months.
I can say that the main piece (without the swing arm) weighs less than the OEM bumper and towing receiver for sure. I'd guess it's only 30-40 lbs over the previous set up not including the weight of the gas can holders and full gas cans. I'll get more detailed weight estimates shortly...

Hey looking fantastic. I especially like the look of that hinge setup of yours. It looks really burly and as though it will holdup to some abuse down the road. I am working on something similar and I have not had much luck finding a hinge that I can really get excited about. I am torn between the Iron Pig setup and your rocklogic. Now that you have it on what do you think of it? I do like those bearings rather than the more simple Pig setup with bushings and sleeves. Thanks for the great writeup and the inspiration. :Mechanic:
The other thing that is keepig me up at night is how you cut the steel to mount it flush with the hinge? Did you use something special or just take your time outlining it and get out the old 4" grinder? Also your hole saw cut for the hinge, did this require a better than average hole saw, or did it just take some time? thanks much
