The Great Camp Chair Debate

Well maybe not...it broke on me during the last trip. That's only about 14 days of trail use before breaking...

For the big guys: http://www.amazon.com/Kijaro-Dual-Folding-Chair-XX-Large/dp/B004C0KHIY

These things are really sturdy (for a folding chair), roomy, and are rated at 400 lbs. Fortunately I don't weigh quite that much, but am 6'3" ~280 lbs, and this chair works well for me.

To their credit, Kijaro is apparently going to replace the chair. We'll see how this one lasts.

I want to get some of Mike's chairs from Autohome when he gets them to market for sitting around the fire.
But for lounging, I have not found a more comfortable chair/lounger than the Cabelas one I have.

Very easy to fall asleep in it.

did you get one ? or get a chance to sit in one yet ?

Actually I did :D

Snow Peak came to OVX and had quite the setup there - all of their tables, chairs and hoodads were set up under a huge Land Station. Very impressive when you see how it all works together.

The chair in question is comfy and sturdy enough for my 250 lbs. Very nice. Overland Gourmet had some there for sale and they sold out the first day!

Snow Peak this, Snow Peak that, Snow Peak with a whiffle ball bat!

Dave, put down the Snow Peak catalog and step away. No one gets hurt. :coffeedrink:

No denying it, I'm down with the sickness ;)

Actually that one packs down very small really, the backrest and armrests fold down so when folded up it's only as big as the the lower leg "square" and flat.

might have to order one and check it out :) my issue I need 4 of them maybe if they all stack up I can pack something in that empty space then :) hmmmmm RED SP CHAIRS OOOOHHHHH AHHHH

can say I was so close yet so far from the expo !!! I so wanted to get up their just a few hours away ! but had all these things with our kids going on that were important end of school things and such :(
really wanted a chance to go sit in chairs also go see lots of other cool stuff of course :)

on a side note my partner steel stove came today so figuring out how best I am going to make it drop into my IGT !!! I have two ideas one uses the lid as a lowered platform the other use L channel like I did on my magma :)

I just read through the whole thread and I didn't see anyone using the strongback chairs. Does anyone use those? I'm thinking about getting one but they are a little steep...

Get one let us know :)

Seems reasonable compared to some other chairs here :)

Downside for me way to big pack size :)

Strongback chair

We bought a pair of Strongback chairs last year. His and her sizes (Elite and Zen) that fit us well, are very comfortable and well made. After having many camp chairs over the past 20+ years we both agree that they are the best we've owned. At just under $100 for the Elite ($79.95 +shipping) it is reasonably priced especially if value quality and comfort. Over on the Wander the West site they have many members commenting about them.
Cheers

I picked up one of these at an REI attic sale, it is very comfortable and light, I would even consider taking it backpacking. That said I think they are a bit expensive at full price.

^^----Yea I will be buying on of these chairs for backpacking and advriding. kinda weird with the balance thing but the weight saving is key.

I like the one with 4 legs, it only ads like 1 pound but the price double to $120 and thats just outrageous

I got a pair of Cabelas Zero gravity chairs.......they are a hit at every camping!
They are super comfortable and you will fall asleep at night around the fire.......
What really sold it to me was the reviews.....356 people and they almost have 5 stars rating!
THEY WERE RIGHT!

I also have "El Cheapo" folding chairs and they are falling apart after 2 years....
I really HATE these chairs now......last trip I squeezed my finger when folding them.....Aaaaaaarg!
I am soooo done with them......

Next on my list will be Cabela's Director's Chairs
They look sturdy and I like the extra table to hold your drink:

I got two of these chairs from Mountain Plus Gear for less than REI and with free shipping at the time. Purchased them primarily for a kayak float trip and they worked out really really well. Super light, easy to deploy/pack and very comfortable on most surfaces. The beauty of these chairs is that you can comfortably sit on a slope, where 4 legs would have you sliding out of your seat. I will most likely keep them in my exped trailer along with my other kayak friendly camping gear. So much stuff that packs down into a small area.
