The Great Camp Chair Debate

We bought a pair of Strongback chairs last year. His and her sizes (Elite and Zen) that fit us well, are very comfortable and well made. After having many camp chairs over the past 20+ years we both agree that they are the best we've owned. At just under $100 for the Elite ($79.95 +shipping) it is reasonably priced especially if value quality and comfort. Over on the Wander the West site they have many members commenting about them.

I just got my Zen delivered today. I went with the smaller version due to my space availability. Initial impression: this thing is waaaay comfy. I don't like how the arms are just like the cheap chairs but other than that, I think it was worth the dough. As a 200 lb guy with persistent back and knee pain, these are just the ticket. I'm going to order the big one next payday.

After decades of the el-cheapo folding $5 chairs I got tired of sitting in a bag and bought the director style w/table. Awesome! Takes a little more room but so much more comfortable. Wife splurged on a zero G, she parks on my right to share the directors table.

Rugged. Reliable. Ready.
I have some chairs that I purchased from Costco back in 2000 that have held up great. The closest chair I have found to it can be purchased here, the only difference I can tell between this chair and the ones I bought at Costco are the Costco chairs armrests are covered with padded fabric, everything else appears to be the same. Oh, and these chairs do not have any leg interference.

Here is a pic of of the current version of the Costco like chair and it has a weight capacity of 350 pounds for us bigger guys

Pretty sure I have this exact chair and it is going on 13 years of camping, probably used thousands of hours! It's very sturdy and I'm a big guy, and you sit up straight, not down in it, which I like. Yours is green with tan frame and accents? (I realized you posted this 3 years ago so I probably wont' get a response), but I LOVE this chair. Wish I could find some more.

Fantastic chair, mine is in my rig full time.
Bought it from Sierra Expeditions back in 2009.

I got this GCI recliner at REI. Very comfortable for my 6-4 frame and the high back is nice. I like to lean back a bit in my chair while staring at the stars and this one allows that without the fabric digging into the back of my neck. It doesn't pack small like the Pico, but I don't care. I like the zero gravity style recliners, but those are too bulky to pack.

The Kelty Loveseat is a fantastic chair. Good for sitting in the backyard or weekend soccer games for the kids. I picked one up on Amazon for a great price (less than MSRP). If you're in need of seating for two, this thing is amazing. Comfortable, good height (<5'6" couple) and comes with a bottle opener attached to each cup holder; also comes with a nice carrying bag.

I'm just going to wait for these from Mike at Autohome.

We are running the wood through the shaper and have parts on order. Not much longer to wait!

We have made a switch to no. 8 canvas duck cover (British tan) in response to quite a few comments from people who prefer the canvas to ballistic nylon. The carry bags with still be ballistic nylon, but will include a carry handle and shoulder strap

Note the prototype canvas covers in the photo have olive trim - the production models will have a darker tan trim. All edges are served and double stitched.

in my massive downsizing mission I am on
we picked up some of the newer REI Flex Lite Chair
packs down super tiny and super light at under 2 lbs
4 of these might be a major space savings over our regular camp chairs we use now :)

have to say they are pretty comfy and the seat height is not so low its tough to stand up out of :)

for reclining I found out if you use a legless chair back and tuck it down your back you can recline and have your head supported !

would be nice to have it about 4 inches taller for eating at our IGT table height ? we plan on a bench for our kids to eat at which we will double use in the tent for a getting ready space for the kids :) I am going to sit on the one storage bin and not sure about the 4th taller chair needed ?
wondered if I could make up leg extensions for the chair ? hmmmmmm
