The Great Camp Chair Debate

anything particular you are curious about ? can try to see if I can answer that ?

My main interest is in the comfort and quality of the chair. Also curious about the legs/feet on the chair. They look pretty small compared to other chairs. Do they sink into the ground much??? Thanks!

i picked this one up a few months ago, seems sturdy so far, being a hefty 300lbs i was tired of breaking folding chairs and blowing rivets out all the time, this one is wide, has a sturdy base, the table provides space for dinner and a drink and usually keep bug spray and other odds and ends in the pockets, the only bad is the legs will sink into soft ground

they had another one there almost identical in design minus the table and was wider and had a larger weight limit, but i opted for the table haha, hated to spend so much but literally every time i went into the store for like 2 months we went over to the furniture section and sat in varies chairs for several minutes until i finally pulled the plug

Any updates now that you have the chair?

I also got a pair of these from REI. Been out a few times with them. Extremely pleased with them. Sturdy construction, folds super easy. Doesn't bundle up as small as some chairs, but I knew this from the getgo and found a perfect spot for them in my car. Really nice seat height, looks good, comfortable and very stable on uneven ground also. Only negative thing I can think of is that the cupholder is poor at best. It's floppy and small. Everyone knows that's no good, no matter what situation.

this was in another camp chair thread but thought it would be good to post here also :)

got a SnowPeak high back chair to try out one of the canvas ones
problem is it had a crack or cracked when testing ? not sure which
the crack was near the left side back arm rest joint area

so comfort wise
the angle is quite back way farther reclined than any other camp chair I have tried but its very comfy for taking a nap kind of chair and supports the head very well with its tall back !
the alps comfort chair or whatever it is called is much more upright with a small lean back to it
so around the campfire unless you would be the one guy not joining the conversation and looking at the stars !! the alps chair I have you would be in the conversation !
also the alps I can cook from with the table height legs on the IGT setup the SP high back leans back to much for this
also the Alps chair to rest my head I have to slide down in the chair some ! I really wish it was about 6 inches taller ! I am just shy of 6 foot

my wife could not put her feet up on a foot rest and sit comfortably she said it dug into her legs to much ! me on the other hand found it very comfy that way and while I felt the fabric under my legs it was not uncomfortable at all

sitting relaxed and letting your feet slide out the fabric dug into my legs with a pain that bugged me after about 5 minutes !
with feet near the chair so my legs were more in a upright position the chair was super comfy !

pack size I loved !!! the frame was super compact the canvas goes on and off super easy I wish all camp chairs were this light and compact !!!!

so not sure the crack thing kinda freaked me out a bit or was it cracked did I get a bum one ? dont know ???

for all the camp chairs I have tried quite a few I still have and love the alps as a good overall chair !
the SP was more comfy in kick back mode feet up for me the most comfy camp chair I have ever tried !!!! (I still have to try the coleman patio sling) and I am sure their might be some others out there ?
in sitting mode with feet up near the chair it was the most comfy camp chair I have tried !

with feet out it was one of the more uncomfy chairs ?

so its a true love or hate for comfort with going from one of the most comfy to the least comfy just letting your feet slide out in front of you ?

without the crack I would have returned it for that reason ! I want a comfy chair that packs as small as it can but one I can eat from relax in front of the fire it has to pack up to a smaller round long style pack not a fold type that ends up being a big square

since I could sit one way and be comfy and the wife was uncomfy and vice versa I would say for anyone trying to find the ultimate comfort lounger knowing its a lounge chair not a dual purpose eat also chair check it out and try to get ahold of one to try !! cause in that lounge mode it was truly the most comfy camp chair I have tried out !!!!!

if I had my trailer I would have got a new one and kept it around as a second chair ! now the trailer is gone I can only afford to pack one chair for wife and I and it has to do dual purpose

hope this rambling helps someone

Sawyer on that Alps chair
leisure-chair.png

a few real world outings its doing very well even with the kids climbing all over it etc..
while a bit big and a big heavy but no worse than many other folding its been a good chair !
the one thing I can sit and cook with it or use it to kick back in ! while I have to scrunch down a bit to rest my head my wife does not have to scrunch down !
putting your feet up and napping can be done in this chair

just got back from a few days out and kept it up the living room this week and have been sitting in it playing games etc..
I had it out to compare to the Snow Peak I got

quick note our 3 year old tipped over our other folding chair
this model
camp-chair.png

he loves to jump up and put his hands on the back and this one tipped right on over !!! the other model above does not do that !
big thing for us and we had no clue it would tip so easy
lucky he thought it was funny and laughed about it :)

got a Lafuma coming in and also a coleman patio to try but so far overall the green alps the first pic one is a great chair with a balance of sitting up not to lounging but being able to lounge in comfort ! for me that seems to be the balance between being to upright or to lounged out
again if I had the trailer we would carry both but with the trailer gone I want one chair to do dual purpose !

I ended up getting a couple of Picos, mainly because of space considerations. I have a spot between my AT drawers and my recovery gear box that was the exact size of 1 folded chair. They are reasonably comfortable, so far have been durable (there about 1 1/2 years old, been used quite a bit) squeak a little and have plenty of moving parts for a chair. Even though I got them on sale they are still on the pricey side, but they fit the space I had available. Overall I'am happy with them.

bought a large Lafuma Butterfly chair !
GRA.jpg
nice pack size low weight for its size but forward tippy big time !

pretty comfy overall but not as comfy as the Snow Peak model and sat to low to cook with !
problem was my kids would climb in it and it would tip forward on them !!! even if they just leaned forward it would tip forward !!! way to tippy

a touch to low for me my head would not quite be supported ! and when I scrunch down my back was not supported and it was not comfy for true lounging with head supported and relaxed for me !

might be a option for some if you can get a chance to try one ! I imagine the mesh would be nice and cool in the heat the fabric comes off so you can pack the frame separate and the frame was a nice compact square shape way better than the basic pack chairs
