Also Mosquito Pass near Leadville.

Seriously? Sweet! I'm en route to Leadville, and was trying to formulate a game-plan. That might be the ticket.

Meet me at the mission at midnight, we'll divvy up there.

I hear ya. This thing is brilliant.

Okay, this'll be a minor update, because I have to tag and upload a hundred or so pictures. I knew I should've done it last night, but I didn't think I'd find good wifi today. (thank you Buena Vista Public Library)

Three nights ago slept at a Kansas rest stop in wind and rain. No doubt Mark jinxed me by bringing up wind. Actually, did I say slept? ...thats not accurate. Then I closed the top and drove 40 miles to a hotel parking lot where I slept on the floor in the back. Oops! I used the word "slept" again.

Two nights ago, I found a little trail along 24 somewhere between Woodland Park and Buena Vista. The trail went up a mountainside a short way, and I camped at a flat spot 3/4 of the way up. Made use off all of the Earthroamer's conveniences - except the loo. VERY awesome.

Yesterday, took the scenic route from Newett CO to Buena Vista. There is a network of forest roads in there, all beautiful and enjoyable.

Last night, I camped along the trail to Tincup Pass above St Elmo, CO. I had actually been here before, which is why I targeted the location. Another comfortable evening, but I didn't linger. Drove back to Buena Vista where I found wifi next to the public library. (where I am now)

Mike, the ER is faring well. Its a remarkable vehicle, that you really start to appreciate more as you're out there using it.

Okay, now I'm going to go tend to my pictures and study some maps. Hopefully get some more pictures up shortly here.

Chris, your not far from the remains of the town of Alta, and Alta Lake camp.

I spent a few nights there, very quiet. Camp is at 11,000' though, keep an eye on weather.

My most humble apologies, I'm gonna sacrifice a mud terrian to the overlanding spirits to bless you with good weather and awesome sights. The photos are outstanding, I'm glad to see you out in the wilds and enjoying yourself. Enjoying it while you can and keep the photos coming!

Hey, Chris,

Thanks for checking in and posting up the pictures. Glad to hear that all is well. The rig sure looks the business out in the middle of nowhere. (And good work not hitting that batch of deer; I haven't always been so skillful. :) )

The photos are great. It's real nice when people do the puzzled "So what exactly was it you bought?" thing, to just point them to your slideshow. Save endless, and difficult, explanation.

Glad everything's working out. You're makin' me feel real good about my buying decision. Let us all know if we can do anything for you. And enjoy the last couple days of the adventure.

Best, Mike

Cool shots, what's on the hood?

Also, the range is 240 miles? Did ER not enlarge the stock fuel tank?

How's the shower water drain?

Sorry to get off topic, but first time ive seen the rig in use. I've actually seen one in person, hopped inside, but never saw the shower/bathroom setup deployed.

That is a towel on the hood. I left it on the tire carrier rack overnight to dry. In the morning, I had a rack-shaped towel. :p

Shower water drain is good. I've not seen the shower setup on the web either, which is why I decided to take a few pics. Be glad it wasn't while in use. Its actually a pretty slick setup. (which one can say about almost all of the conversion's features)

I'm in Leadville. Just happened to find wifi. Gonna head toward Mosquito Pass, and keep an eye open for a new campsite.

Congrats (Mike) ... such an awesome ride and in its element where Chris is now.

Great trip report and photos so far Chris.

We did Mosquito Pass last week (http://expeditionportal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19692); lots of photo ops along the way.

Look forward to more ...

Awesome report Chris! :clapsmile

Congrats on the new ER Mike. They are indeed awesome vehicles. If you ever need a spot getting it through the Rubicon trail, just let me know. ;)

LOL, that photo of the towel is hilarious.

Well I thought that I had spotted you heading North on I-25 near Ft Collins, Colorado. It was a silver XV-JP with black wheels??? But I see that you are in central Colorado...

I see your diet is faring well, big 'ol box of Cheezits!
Yeah, and some chewy cookies peeking out there. (Maybe the orange wrappers are from the carrot sticks? Nah.) No matter, though, he's young, and I'm not one to give him a hard time; the steering wheel is likely to get my personal coating of 'eetos dust soon enough.

I'm glad Dave broke down and asked what the heck that photo was about. I was going nuts trying to figure out whether it was some freaky David Copperfield thing Chris does, or whether ERs came with hood-mounted pop-up towel holders. :)

Hey Chris,
congrads on the trip, that looks like a load of fun. My only advise is to check your feet before you get in the rig, I would hate to see you have to clean the floors. Also watch for paper towels along side the trail. Keep the pics coming, they are awesome.
