Considering your stable, that fortune can have a number of meanings. How long ago did you pick up Dave's 80?
Well, ya see . . . I first thought the fortune meant Dave's trailer, then I figured it meant Dave's trailer AND his Cruiser. Little did I know back then that it must really have meant the XV-JP. ;)

Yeah, it's a totally embarrassing situation at the moment. I just got the AdventureDuo stuff home in early August. The XV-JP was too good to pass up at the price, but I didn't exactly need it. I suspect I'll get things sorted out sometime, but at the moment, I understand that having enough overland vehicles for a dozen doesn't make sense in a two person family. (Here's hoping that the Unimog doesn't end up back here. That would take the situation from the merely indefensible into the totally absurd. )

In my haste during the trip, I apparently forgot to upload 30 pictures or so to Flickr. Nothing too exciting, but I updated my photoset nevertheless. Here are a few!

I'm a little wide-eyed in this pic, but intentionally so because of lighting. Looks a little crazy, but otherwise I think its a cool pic.

Okay, a little off-camber here. Within the ER's limits, but disconcerting nevertheless.

Nice view. Lousy place to jump.

Intermission's nearly over. I fly to Denver tomorrow and will pick up the ER Jeep on Friday morning.

Sadly, the second act will be much more boring than the first. I'll take a camera but, unlike Chris, I have no great talent at photography and I am, in any event, sticking to the Interstates all the way home. I thought about doing a more significant trip on the way home, but figured that rather than haul all of the trip stuff to Colorado, I'd just get her back home and then pack 'er up and go somewhere significant.

Anyway, I'll likely be able to post up on Monday with some pictures of XV-JP-03 at her new home. :)

Howdy Mike,
Will you be coming through Reno? I'll be home all weekend....mostly.

No Nevada on this trip. Taking the quick but boring route: Up I-25 to Fort Collins, US287 to I-80 at Laramie, then I-80 to I-15 at Ogden, then onto I-84 in southeast Idaho and on into Portland. 1237 miles.

Thanks for the offer, though. It would have been good to see you.

Home Sweet Home. :victory:

EarthRoamer XV-JP #03--I better work on a nickname--is in Portland. No problems at all, except for the 300 miles of 30-knot headwind off the port bow that I inevitably encounter whenever I take I-80 through Wyoming.

The biggest revelation of the trip was how well the Jeep drove the superslab. This is my first Wrangler and, from reading mainstream reviews, I expected a penalty-box-on-wheels for 1300 miles of 70 mph cruising. And what with the mud terrains and the off-road-oriented suspension mods, I was planning to suffer a long slog home.

Turned out to be nothing of the kind. The JK kept up fine with traffic, handling seemed safe and secure, the noise level was low and the ride was cushy. Perhaps Wranglers are just that way these days, but I suspect that the ER composite cabin really helps the structural integrity of the chassis compared to the usual multi-piece removable top. Also, it's clear that ER's Terraflex suspension mods are totally appropiate for pavement use. Anyway, I wanted the vehicle in spite of what I expected to be mediocre-or-worse highway performance, so I'm pleased as I can be to learn I have a fine highway cruiser.

The people at EarthRoamer were great. My orientation was a lot of fun, and went pretty quick since a surprising number of unusual things on the XV-JP, like the toilet, windows, and even odd plastic bedsprings are things I had on my other vehicles. They'd done a nice job of getting everything ready for my trip, replacing the sway bar disconnects (don't know why since the failure wasn't at all ER-related; just being nice, apparently), doing a few updates and getting everything polished up. As pretty much everyone here knows, EarthRoamer is a very classy organization.

I opened up the roof to show off the uber-clever LofTop, which caused it to immediately start raining and the forecast is for the rain to stick around until, oh, about June. Since it's desireable to store the top when dry, it could be up until summer. :)

Chris Shontz has already taken a picture of everything interesting, so here's a couple of lame pictures merely to prove she made it to my house:

Thanks again to Chris for getting the truck to EarthRoamer from Philadelphia, and thanks to all those who offered encouragement on our respective drives. And a general thank you to the Expedition Forum. It was through ExPo members' posts that I knew the truck was desireable, found the truck, knew I should buy it, and found Chris to help transport it. Thanks to all.

Now that I've got it here, if there's anyone who needs a description or picture of anything on the truck, just ask. I'd be happy to oblige.

Mike, that may be the coolest rig for independent travel I've seen. It makes me moist just looking at the photos.

Glad to see the rig got there safe and sound. Hope you get a lot of use out of it!

Careful Chris!

You're weakening!

Looks like it has room for a Pignose and Tele ... to go rockin' the Rockies.

Resistance is futile!

Mike, we need a pic of ALL the rigs in the driveway!!!!
Well, I'll give it some serious thought, Buddy, 'cuz you know how much I'd enjoy providing the photographic evidence to prove to everyone that I have no damn common sense. ;)

Of course, I'm not sure if the driveway is big enough, and I'd have to rent one of those cherry picker bucket things to get some altitude. And I'd have to go collect everything.

Right at the moment, the Sami is at a friend's garage, the 100 is in my garage, the Unimog is at EuroTech, the Earthroamer Rubicon and your 80 are at a rented storage space six miles away, the XR600R and the TLR200 are in what is supposed to be our garden equipment storage, the Sprinter is looking forlorn sitting getting rained on in the driveway, and your AT Horizon and my composite shell--which is useless till I buy a truck to put it on, which just will make the situation worse--are clogging up my shop.

There's admittedly something not quite right with this situation. I'm guessing I better get an overlanding vehicle rental business started Real Soon Now. :D
