Not a big fan of the graphics package and wheel style. I think it cheapened the look of the truck. I'm all for the rest of it, thank God graphics and wheels can be replaced.

The problem is they tried to put 80s styling features on a 00s truck with 90s organic design.

If Toyota offered a taco with a locking rear as they currently do, a manual shift transfer case and a SFA with manual hubs I would go to the dealership on Monday and put down a deposit.

Add to that a real pilot shaft on the 6spd and I would be in.

I wouldn't be surprised if they hit there and then go onto bringing a true sports car back to the table...

Here it comes... Lexus LF-A $200,000+!! In my mind this is toyota stepping out of their comfort zone.

Good argument on both sides, anyhow, I had a need for sfa truck, wanted it to ride nice so I started with this

added some of these and a few other things

and ended up with a truck that due to the coilovers rides BETTER than my ifs tacoma did. Steering is not as precise, can't have everything... now I ride in this. IFS, don't try this at home:

We use it to go to Ocracoke Island every summer, jetski in tow, tons of gear, wife and son. What do we leave at home? 06 4runner and 06 gmc crew cab 4x4 dually diesel fully loaded, Why? Its a fun truck to drive, and still comfortable. Supercharger helps fun factor....

I agree, right driver, lockers, tires, ifs could do this. This is an easy section, but I can go places with this truck that ifs would not make it. I would bet money on it. Ifs has it limits. It's been proven time and again. IFS breaks in spots I do not.:Wow1:

Yes they are va tags.

SKIM your tuck is well

as far as a kit for the taco there's: http://www.offroadsolutions.com/suspension.html
to bad they went out to business.

Poly Performance: http://www.polyperformance.com/shop/Universal-3-Link-Weld-On-Front-Kit-p-16803.html

you can build a radius arm suspension or even better a "wristed" radius arm suspension for cheap.

Sadly Off Road Solutions is no longer in business :(

Also check out http://www.frontrangeoffroadfab.com/ which is also the manufacturer of Diamond Axles.
Both Front Range and Sky's only offer leaf sprung conversions at this time.
You will also have to convert the Rack and Pinion steering to either a LC box or IFS steering box from an 86-95.

Couple things about the FJ80 axles, they are almost the same width as the 05-Current Tacoma axles. Approx 63"
And the steering arms on the axles can be hard to find a good conversion for.
http://www.sleeoffroad.com/products/products_steering_main.htm
You will have to use a cross over exhaust system and you may need a 2wd rear sump oil pan.

The Diff is on the passenger side. This can be solved by a number of ways.

Using a Toy Box from Marlin Crawler or Inchworm Gear, this allows you to use any Toyota transfer case behind the Toy Box. Namely using either a gear driven TC or a chain driven 88-95 TC

Using Inchworm Gears 2wd Auto adapter to convert any Toyota Auto to 4wd (since you are cutting off the front suspension anyway, buying a 2wd maybe a good option)

Using a custom front axle with driver side Diff allows other options

Using your stock 4wd TC, using a custom dual TC setup from either IWG or MC, or IWG has a custom drivers side chain driven TC called the Lefty.

Nothing is impossible, these conversions have been done before. Do some research and start fabbing :Mechanic:

Sorry, your incorrect.

The 80 series differential has the diff pumpkin on "your" drivers side, being the left hand side of the vehicle, which is why it is an ideal conversion.

several new hilux's have had the conversion done, and it suits as the transfercase is left hand dropped aswell.

the width is ideal, just the price of the conversion isn't......

Yeah, I would love to have a Live front axle on the front of my hilux, but the costs involved in doing this dont seem to be worth it.

for the same price you could fully equip an IFS rig with all the good gear, and go 95% of the places a solid axled rig goes, and for me thats good enough.
