"TrailTop" modular trailer topper building components

One of the problems that I continuously see in a rear kitchen is the working height.

If the rear of the trailer is 2' off the ground, that would make the rear cabinets about a foot high to make it workable, especially for someone a bit shorter.

Really enjoying the progress as the project moves forward.

I haven't decided what to do yet. I don't know if there would be enough demand for the TrailTop parts to make it worthwhile for me to work with a company to help them get the parts to production.

You could always build just the components on a one-off basis based on the molds you have already created then just ship the ordered components to the individual to build and finish as needed. Kind of like using rough cut lumber and having the final installer finish as needed. Yours would just be rough glassed components...

Just throwing out ideas. I am diligently saving funds to build the Trailtop Overlander design you did for me (post #162), and I hope someone will work with you to bring them to market.

Doing fiberglass molding isn't something I like to do - for me it's a necessary evil, a means to an end to turn my designs into reality. I really don't have any interest in molding any more parts than I need to mold in order to complete the proof-of-concept projects. Molding parts for sale is something for someone else to do, not me :).

I do think the TrailTop Overlander would be a very cool use of the TrailTop parts :).

This morning I took the TrailTop teardrop parts out of the workshop and did a quick test install on an actual trailer...

Since the black fiberglass Jeep-tub I have in the workshop is the same size as this trailer, everything bolted up right away. Next I'll get the side panels, roof and rear hatch installed.

I love this design too. My favorite so far. I sure hope someone picks this up from you Jeff. It would be a great project.

Some photos of the side panels installed and the basic shell assembled on the trailer. Still have to install the roof panel and the rear hatch.

Tomorrow I'll do the roof panel and the the rear hatch, which will complete the assembly of the basic shell.

Love the modular design. It could be adapted to a military trailer.

Thanks. I've done a few concept drawings showing the TrailTop parts used on a military trailer, one of those drawings is in post 38 of this thread.

I finished up the assembly of the basic TrailTop teardrop shell this morning by bolting on the roof panel and installing the hatch.

Just noticed your plate is from NY.... What area?.. Curious cause I'm near Albany, and frequently go down to Long Island and out to the east end.

One of my design criteria for the TrailTop parts is the ability to support loads on the roof, such as a rack basket or a roof-top tent. I'll be installing and testing both of those over the next few days, but the first step is my standard 225-lb. gorilla test...

There were no signs of stress or any movement of the shell with this load on the roof. Next I'll test the rack basket and roof-top tent.

My son and I testing out the interior. There's plenty of room inside for a pair of 6' 6" goons like us :).
