Mark, I believe the build was posted here on EP, and post #616 was asking about interest in the different models.
What I get out of the marketing side and the commercial intent is that Jscherb is the designer, apparently with no desire to go into manufacturing and I don't blame him.
Getting a patent on a design is costly and often a home builder can pretty much copy a basic design without any commercial purpose and the patent holder has little recourse. Designs can often be modified where there is no patent infringement. The design of a jeep bucket is probably an issue with jeep, but there are knock-offs modified, perhaps to size, that are a non-issue, so long as they aren't specifically copied.
I like the idea of selling the trim kits, when a designer gives specifications to build something and those instructions are followed, the designer takes on a product/design liability. That can mean costly insurance and being in business means licensing and in some cases`product testing to meet safety requirements.
The "pod" concept is pretty much in the public domain, unrestricted idea, the military has used a pod system in many applications for over 100 years, so it's not new. I'm starting on a "pod" and component approach, I don't want a dedicated camper vehicle or trailer for many reasons, not practical to have my garages loaded with seldom used toys. Multi-tools are great, none work as well as the dedicated tool but they are handy when you need them.
If you're stumped on finishing edges and corners, look to other products, tubing, extrusions used by manufactures, find salvaged existing parts then adapt those to your design. PVC is great stuff, heated it seals, can be faired, bent and connected and lots of materials can cover that. Metal too.
This is a great thread and wish all the best to the commercialization working out.
