Is that good or bad?

I've always been partial to white and silver for off road. They hide dirt, dings, and scratches better than other colors imho. However I did have a patriot blue TJ, it sure was pretty but I had to actually wash it and stuff.

So Pretty :D

94 YJ - black w/ black top

87 Range Rover - silver
96 Disco - hunter green
60 SII - pale mint w/ body color top
99 TJ - Patriot Blue w/ black top
95 Disco - red (I actually got a quote to paint the top white)
99 F250 - white
71 SIIa - marine blue w/ white top

A friend of mine in the auto body business recently noted that white painted vehicles seem to rust out faster than other colors. This is in a coastal area where salt is in the air, not on the roads.

After his comment I realized that both of my white vehicles did seem to rust faster than my other colored vehicles. Might be a coincidence, might be something to this.

Note the highlighted portion.

Could it be that rust is simply more noticeable on a white vehicle?

I believe it's been observed that red tends to oxidize faster if it's not cared for but beyond that, I don't know that any one color is better than any other.

That I do not know. His statement was based on observation of a relatively large volume rather than scientific data. I trust my friend's observation enough to mention it here for consideration.

I do know that my two white painted vehicles did start rusting faster than expected. One came to me already white and already rusting, the other I painted white. The one that got painted was done under the supervision of a paint & body shop owner friend of mine and he insisted on Glasurit (sp?) epoxy primer as the base coat over the prepped bare metal. Excessive lacquer check meant we couldn't leave the original paint on the car. Less than 2 years later it was showing rust in the crevices and edges.

I've notice that the paint on neglected red vehicles fade the fastest also.

Mostly with older generation lacquers, not with newer polyurethane paint.

But really, whatever color your vehicle is is likely the best for expedition work. Take it out, expose it to the elements, and stop worrying about it.

Don't you people speak English?

Its a good job I caught this thread before it degenerates due to a lack of basic English comprehension: Bollocks are indeed testicles. However the dogs bollocks means the cats meow. :sombrero:

I had turquois, blue, silver, tan, white, yellow, green and red vehicles. I am back with white; just the easiest to take care of. Tan was also not bad but there are not a whole lot of tan vehicles around.

Love my color!...

Love your color too :D

Really though... color is completely moot IMO.

But, just to reassure myself... the last 6 months I've been on trips with rigs of the following color (yes I checked ;)

Silver
Blue
Red
White
Maroon
Green
Dark Green
Grey
Black
Yellow
Baby blue
Mustard
Mint Green
Tan
Orange

None had an advantage based on color alone :D
