I'm partial to Fords so I have an 05 F150 as my DD work truck. Even with 160k on it, I typically would rather drive it over my JKU or my wife's 2012 QX56. Its just down right more comfortable for me compared to the others we have. I am considering getting rid of the JKU and trading the '05 F150 towards a '15 F150. I'll revisit jeeps when the '17 is introduced and if it's crap just get a nice LJ.

They didn't make a real crew cab, did they? Wasn't it just the extended cab?

Yes; an extended cab. Wrong verbage on my part. An extended cab; preferably one with the suicide doors.

That new Dodge 2015 Rebel 4x4 would also be sweet (I'd drive it).

If I were shopping for a new truck for overlanding/camping, I'd probably get a 2016 Chevy Colorado Diesel

I have this: 2006 2500HD with Duramax/Allison combo. I've had it a little over a year. It's a pleasure to drive and gets way better fuel economy than my 2012 JKU-R ever got.

Nice truck, but its not near as fun as your Jeep JKU-R was. I can guarantee you that. ha ha. I was talking to a German couple who are doing the east to west/north to south trip in a iveco off road camper. Thing is huge, and get 23mpg!

I like those camper shells a lot for all the room to sleep in. Just ordered a cap for my crew cab 05 yesterday so I could sleep it in.

It's nicer than it looks - the winter wheels are all I have for it and make it look like a stripped down model, but it's the high trim level (LT3) and has a factory sunroof and rear seat DVD system.

Best truck i ever owned. Yes it sucks gas. Yes i had to rebuild the front end. Still the best truck i have ever owned. It can rock crawl. Mud crawl or mud sling. Tow our 10,500 lb camper w/1500 lb tongue weight. Gets me to work regardless of the snow. Haul 3980 lbs of gravel in the bed (I installed a $380 set of Hellwig Load Pro 35's) & still take the family out to dinner. It is hands down the best "Jack of all trades" vehicle we have ever owned. I use our truck like a truck. If you don't need the capabilities of a truck, then don't buy a truck. A 4dr Jeep would just not work for us.

An oldler 4Runner, mid 80s or back with the solid axle and top that comes off. I have to be able to go top less and for offroading or overlanding I wouldn't want anything bigger than that.

If I could find it, a Comanche would be my first choice. Basically a Cherokee with a bed so what is there not to like? Second choice would be a Tacoma, given the choice I would want a single cab long bed. Great all around vehicle offroad, forgiving on pavement, decent gas milage, and they just don't stop running!

Edit! One vehicle that I would love is a Ford Excursion with the 7.3 Powerstroke, basically an F250 with a non-removable cab cover. They are absolute beasts!

my original plan was to get a new Ram 1500 to tow the Jeep, house remodeling and maybe get a cab-over camper but ended up with a 2015 Tacoma double cab long bed 4x4. The master plan is in 3-5 years ill sell both the Jeep Wrangler and Tacoma for either a new ford raptor or if Jeep really makes it the Wrangler pickup. Tacoma holds mad value compare to the ram 1500 so hopefully i could sell it for a good price when the time comes.
In the mean time the Tacoma can double as my long distance overland vehicle.
