I do like the looks of that.
Have not seen that done to any FJ Cruisers yet though, but I think it looks nice.

Are those made of aluminum? I'm curious about the strength. I've been planning on building some for myself, but not sure aluminum would be stiff enough. It's not a horrible idea, but I'm sure a different selection of tube profile to use would offer more traction.

Kinda been thinking about doing the something like that on my H3.. Was thinking of putting a topo map, but had envisioned the entire hood being done.. Just filling in the center might not be as gawdy as I was starting to think it would with the entire hood.

Just getting really tired of the stupid looking fake hood vent.. On'y think is taking that off will leave 6 slot holes in the hood where they thing snaps in place..

Guess if I took it off, I'd really have 6 tiny little hood vents..

i do like the topo map idea. I wouldn't get too detailed with it though, i think a very simple map would look better.

I am hoping to get my hood black out painted on whenever i get a chance to bring it in to my buddy's paint shop.

your imagination is the limit for your truck...besides your wallet.

That does look fantastic! I love the compass design itself. Congrats!

I like it, very nice.

Great job! Looks super.

Absolutely stunning.

The handcuffs on the rear view mirror are an especially nice touch.

Thanks, I'm glad I went ahead and went with the extra compass overlay rather than just replacing my old hood blackout.

Handcuffs in the rearview mirror go extremely well with the radio in the drivers corner of the windshield, and the Shepherd in the back. :sombrero:

who designed the graphic?

That looks great. My truck is black, so I wasn't going to do that, but it got me thinking again. I shoot off the hood of my truck sometimes and the rear bag and front bi-pod can scratch it up pretty good. That would go along way to helping save some paint. It might not match the rest of the truck after though with all the other scratches! Good job!

Thanks, works great for a paint saver as well. Going to wait a while before putting anything on it though. However I've tried it out already with the other blackout. :D

Me likey! Except it's only correct if you're driving South..I wouldn't use it for navigation if I were you.

Yeah, I had a bit of a problem on the way home yesterday after installing it since I wasn't sure whether to trust the massive compass in front of me, or the one on the rearview mirror.

I agree, and wonder if that "unique" accessory photo will appear on another bulletin board ?:coffee:

Probably, but it's no big deal. There isn't manner that will get to see it considering the website doesn't work more than half the time. :p

I use it at work and put it on stairs and such.

That would definitely be something to do in the near future, surely a huge improvement in wet conditions.

Yeah, they're made out of aluminum. I've driven up 90* angles with them so I'm assuming with my Disco being as heavy as it is they should be strong enough for most other vehicles in the same situations.

I think ideally using square tubing all the way up the middle, welded in place in a way that makes a triangular shape pointed upwards to meet the tire would be the best.

I'm thinking angle would be best. Center corner facing up, two edges on the bottom.

Can't be modeled as a simple beam unless the factor of safety is very high. Due to the nature of these, trying to achieve a very low weight, you're going to push the limits of the design. Ignoring the effect of the compressive load from the tire pushing down on the center of the beam would be a mistake. Thus, it would be better done in a FEA, which I don't do.

OR, you can just test things real world.
