Overland Journal Project Land Rover Discovery 4 (LR4)

I completely understand what you're saying and agree to a large extent. But it's old hat - you can get 95% of anywhere on 32s with a good driver in anything from a Suzuki Samurai to a LR4. It seems the LR3/LR4 is just as well suited to 35s as any other modern SUV (Land Cruiser, Xterra, etc) and...

People used to say the same things about Defenders, D1s, RRCs..... (and a lot still do)

2017 Nissan Armada, built on Patrol chassis

I think they look great. I wonder how many of the Australia spec Patrol accessories (racks, bumpers, etc) will work. A small lift, rear locker sliders, and 285/75r18s would make a great platform.

But, Tacomas are made in America: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Motor_Manufacturing_Texas The Jeep pickup will be a lifestyle play 100%. Just like the Brute. Its not going to haul anything more than some bags of mulch from the store or maybe the trash to the dump. If we are lucky, it...

How would that be any different than a Tacoma with a sander in the back?

    2017 Ford Raptor prices

Right, kind of funny. Bypasses exist for the specific reason of delivering the same performance across all surfaces, versus one surface. "Well how come race cars dont use them then" is kind of a non starter.

    2017 Ford Raptor prices

Yes that's basically how it works, a hard fast hit opens the bypass instantaneously. As soon as that force is dissipated the bypass closes and returns the shock to regular valving (which is still dynamic).

Stranded and solutions? What would have helped?

For the record I've been there too. Snapped front pinion shaft left my girlfriend at the time and I stranded in the middle of the Vermont woods for the night, in the pouring rain, after what was supposed to be just a romantic afternoon wine and cheese picnic by a stream. We spent the night...

    2017 Ford Raptor prices

the valving is dependent on shock shaft speed and position. Not static at different sections of travel. So there is no "firmer part of the valving". Its all dynamic.

Stranded and solutions? What would have helped?

Thats a dusy. One of the few non-redundant failure items that can totally strand you. All the recovery gear in the world wouldnt have made a difference. I echo the above, I'd have an inReach connected to a network of buddies back home that could scare up parts and recovery in a pinch. And be...

    2017 Ford Raptor prices

Oh yeah there's no practical reason for a TT V8, but there's also no practical reason for a Raptor in the first place unless you are running the desert at high speed. In which case, TT V8 all the way. Kind of the same as a Mustang. Sure you can get a 300hp NA V6 which is good on gas and all the...

Sidewall strength, tire pressure, and tire quality

Shall we reference load inflation tables? What size tire is that - 285/75R16? On what rim width? You already said your van weighs 10k.

Sidewall strength, tire pressure, and tire quality

You have a remarkable penchant for the dramatic. If I were to believe you, then "airing down" an E rated off road tire to 60psi and driving over a small rock is going to so severely damage the tire that one risks life and limb doing so. Get a grip on reality - for your own sake.

Hey look at that super flat windshield glass. Looks flatter even than the JK. Great news from a styling perspective.

Sidewall strength, tire pressure, and tire quality

Holy hell you guys are still going on about this? By the way, your van tires are seriously overinflated. Look at the crown in that tread. Yikes. Maybe they'd work better at 40-50psi, if you dare.
