    Compact 4x4s

The problem is that you're looking at FJ60's Get a HJ60, I've never seen more than 12L/100km out of mine in the last 25 years, and that was towing a big boat! Around town or on the highway it's ususally 9-11L/100km Better than many new vehicles! Sean

    12v amperage/power load for off-road lights.

It's not the "correct" method, but here's what I do... Pretend that the vehicle runs on 10v ;) 10 is an easier number to divide by, and in this case 100W is 10A It also gives you a nice safety margin :) Sean

    4X4 Coaster conversion

Theres a newer model Diesel powered one broken down on the Arnhem Highway at the moment I reckon they're about the best option for a small offroad camper, if you weren't looking to tow much more than a small boat.

    Best LC seat covers?

These are good: http://www.black-duck.com.au/ They put up with drillers and the like, all day every day. Normally last at least a few years (in industry) and although they don't stop the stuffing in the seat wearing out, atleast the still look nice when the covers come off. Sean

Charging 12V deep cycle bat in truck

Just to add my 2c, You need to run a heavy guage power wire to the back, I'd recomed popping the bonnet (hood?) and checking what guage of wire runs from your alternator to your battery. There's no need for anything heavier than this, any smaller and you can loose some efficiency. I'm a bit...

    Taser M18L

I have but one question, and I'm not meaning to be rude, just to understand a bit better... Why do you need a taser when you're out bush??? Is it for protection from people or wildlife?

anything like this in the US ?

What I don't like about that design is that its using your precious solar power for moving the panel. There's another one that an inventor has come up with (featured on a TV show called "The New Inventors") which uses a thermal hydraulic system to move the panel, as heat increases, it slowly...

Arctic Trucks looks for military customers

One of the few reasons I can think of is to stop it reflecting light and giving away a semi camoflaged position I guess after a few rounds have hit it would need to be kicked out anyway Sean

    Toyota Blizzard?

Much smaller than a 7x however, these things are more like the size of a Suzuki Sierra/Samurai however with a diesel engine (in this case, petrol models also exist). They're tough little go anywhere tonka toys! http://www.exploroz.com/Forum/Topic/40700/Toyota_Blizzard_info_required.aspx Sean

    Seat Cover question-again, sorry

Something like Michelle Sachs, Black Duck or Ruff Nuts would be my recomendations - from working in the tropics in a vinyl seated cruiser. Sean

    Low-cost Chinese generators

Don't rely on it too much, and change the oil - the included stuff is often pretty bad... Sean

    Wheel bearing field repair

I just put a setup like that on my trailer last week. It's a piece of square section, that has a stub axle attached. The stub axle is the same as what my trailer uses, and mounted to it I have a spare, packed, ready to go hub. Gives a little bit of piece of mind :) Sean

    Durability of an Engel

Yeah, they have little rubber feet so they don't transmit too much vibration. I wouldn't want my head next to it, but they aren't loud. If the mattress/bed is ontop of your trailer then that's more than enough sound deadening Sean

    Spare alternator?

Ahhh, but then you don't get the serenity, the joy of being on you're own with just you're faithful cruiser (and maybe a female companion to keep warm with;))

    Mahindra 4x4 pickup

We had a company importing mahindra's back in the 90's in Aus. They were little jeep / sierra / samurai looking things Never were very popular... The magazine reviews at the time did say that they were very capable offroad, however on road manners and comfort were lacking, as was safety. I...

    Thermoelectric Coolers

They typicaly work on a temperature differential, where the peltier panel will be around 25deg celsius lower on one side, and hotter on the other. If you're in 25deg weather, it will keep things icy cold, however in really hot climates it will just keep it cool. They also have quite a large...

    Spare alternator?

I wouldn't worry about it if you're in a manual diesel vehicle with no computer :) Anything else.... I'd be hesitant to go bush without a spare of everything!

    Wind??

Driving with the wind turbine would be counter productive. Your vehicle would use more fuel pushing the extra wind resistance from the turbine than it would use just to charge the batteries from an alternator attached directly.

Found a '74 LC for sale - got questions...

To be honest, I've never had the pannels myself, but there's more than a few landcruisers that have been saved from the scrap heap using them. Sean
