    Brake wear expectations? Upgrades?

perhaps better labeled "exhaust retarder". I use it on my Canter manual to maintain appropriate speed downhill, select the gear at which speed will be maintained. Very effective. All downhill. Particularly on slippery slope where touching brakes can create problems. Useful in traffic, but...

    Brake wear expectations? Upgrades?

we could spend days on the regs ..... ADR 35/00 that was the standard in 2005 when my vehicle was built is of course less stringent than AD 25/04 in force since 2013 and probably less stringent than the 8 pedal presses, what is intellectually interesting (to me) is that the NB category within...

    Brake wear expectations? Upgrades?

probably right. http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/motor/design/adr_online.aspx I don't know if my vehicle had to comply with ADR 35 when new and original.

    Brake wear expectations? Upgrades?

yes, the leverage between the brake pads and tyre surface is less with larger diameter wheels, but ..... the movement of the brake pads is limited by the drum. Once the pads contact the drum they can't move much further. What occurs to provide the same braking with big wheels as little wheels...

    Brake wear expectations? Upgrades?

good to see you still around John, if the only difference between standard and big wheels is the 8th pedal press the system must indeed be marginal when standard,

    Brake wear expectations? Upgrades?

I've puzzled over it for a long time ..... logically ........ the movement of the brake pads, thus the displacement of the slave cylinders, thus the displacement of the master cylinder, and thus the displacement of the vacuum side of the booster, for a single application of the brakes is...

What size upgraded fuel tank recommended?

two tanks, 1600km range and redundancy. Water trap / coarse filter on each. Changeover switch. No mod to standard fuel filter. Carry a spare. Never fill both tanks from same source. Never run one to empty without trying the other one. Record odometer when swapping. Crossing borders was "fill...

    Beadlock Rims on Big Truck

I replaced my tyres in UK. Mobile tyre fitter changed them with hand lever operated bead breaker and two long tyre levers. I have the tyre levers and tyre soap. I'm borrowing a "design" for a bead breaker from friend - two bits of 10mm Al welded as a "T". The vertical bit curved to the rim...

First Impressions 2004 with newly installed ATW suspension

thanks muchly Dave, I'm back in Aus now and doing some fixups. My vibration in 4wd starts about 30km/hr. I also have front oil seal on transfer box weeping. I'll have to work through whether I have play in transfer case bearing or increased drive shaft angle is a bit much. Or .... any...

First Impressions 2004 with newly installed ATW suspension

steering wheel about quarter turn is due to changed steering arm angle as vehicle height changed. Remove and replace steering wheel. a couple of silly questions ... any vibration from the front in 4wd? which shock absorbers? any change to rear bump stops?

    Brake fluid reservoir cap spew?

just a push on rubber cap. There's a see through bit in the dash cover to see the reservoir level so the cap doesn't need removing very often. Maybe a trip to the wreckers ...

    Brake fluid reservoir cap spew?

I haven't had such a problem (FG649). I'd be checking further that there isn't a seal problem somewhere.

For those of you with suspension seats...how do you deal with seat belts?

with the limited travel in the suspension seats I have in FG649 the seat belts have only been a problem a couple of times. In some circumstances they progressively tighten and the inertia reel locks them. Low on my priority list.

    Iveco 4x4 Daily

I've heard that previously. my experience with an Aus model Mitsu in Asia and Europe suggests that while spares are available they are not easily accessible. Typical example - Fuso dealer in Spain - needed replacement wheel studs. Parts book not available, had to ask Germany (Fuso is Merc)...

Looking for ideas on a good Fuso jack?

I just received my hi-lift jack. On cursory examination it is intrinsically unsafe. Flipping the up/down lever to down allows the jack to collapse if there is not sufficient load on it. Instructions reckon 50kg. I think this thing is a thing of very last resort.

Looking for ideas on a good Fuso jack?

I set off on three year trip with an air bag. Seemed like a good idea at the time. I tested it and all was well. It lifted one corner and didn't burst so may be useful. I wasn't sure what for but "everybody has one" and it didn't need much space or weight. I stored it in the bottom of a...

    who has installed a Webasto?

on FG649 I tee'd twice off the cab heater circuit close to the engine. So Webasto in parallel with cab heater. Fuel take off for water heater and diesel cooker separate hole in one fuel tank (magnet to pick up any bits of metal while drilling). My webasto wiring loom was overly complicated...

    Fuso Cold Weather Kit

I have a Webasto diesel water heater - for space heating, hot water heating, fresh water tank warming, and engine preheating. I can also use the engine for all the heating. Never really had it below 0 centigrade for long enough to worry though.
