Sure... but not all three while towing stupid large loads. Lots of weight and you use more power to move(wear and tare), more fuel to create that power ( money) and still won't drag as much along happily as a diesel. But for less extreme applications its ok.
If you're worried about fuel then buy...
AIRBORNE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)
I'd say leave them natural. Then you won't have to keep touching up the paint when it chips off.
And you may want to seal it up so water doesn't get in behind it (and dust/sand). Don't forget to seal the fasteners as well, maybe some neoprene washers would work there? :)
1Duece... I hear ya sir. Growing up (in the 70s-80s) I remember diesel always being way cheaper than gas. It wasn't until gas prices started to climb..uh, make that jump! that I really even thought about it much. My Dad was one of those thrifty (cheap *****) guys that would drive 20 miles for a...
Ok...A little more. :)
Everything our military operates on (broad brush with exceptions) is multi-fuel, generally diesel. Its that way for a reason. Over the road truckers are almost 100% diesel burning tractors. Farm equipment is too...
So why is that? Because diesel provides more usable power...
I disagree with you reece...Yes, if gas goes away or becomes SO expensive that it can't be afforded, then of course we all have bigger problems. But...Part of solving those problems is to find a way around them. A viable solution that will keep lights on, water flowing...all the little...
If I wasn't stuck in Germany right now I would have tried to source/scrounge the parking brake cables as well. In the spirit to just get them done I ordered these:

They aren't cheap...
Lookin' good! Are those the 1.5" wheel spacers or 1.25"?
What did you do for parking brake cables and brake lines for the 8.8?
Don't suppose you have a pic of the 8.8 brakes without the rotor on so I can see how everything goes? :)
You, Sir... win the Kewpie Doll! That is exactly what I had kind of visualized! Now I just have to find out where they are sold locally to me here in BFE Bavaria! :) thanks a BUNCH!
So while rummaging through the recycle center here I turned up this little guy. I have no idea what its normal application is but I thought it may make for a neat alternative to regular skate bearings for making drawer slides. Why? Well.. in my off the cuff thinking it seems like the groove in...
Since I found about 5 good ones of these (One has a spot where it got put on something hot and melted?) I may just try and fab them onto my XJ temporarily. I could probably put some recovery gear like chains/ropes etc in one (each) of my vehicles. Not sure yet about the rest as I haven't had...
Welcome and nice score on the J-truck. I've never seen the black one before so I'm interested in finding out more as well. You may try cross posting over at IFSJA (international full size jeep) site and see if anyone there knows it. Plus, if your new to FSJs then that is where you'll get a lot...
Other option would be to hit up Jeep specific junkyards. But be prepared... they charge a premium! I'd say the best bet would be to buy a wrecked (or two depending on the damages) Rubys and build one from it. But don't fool yourself into thinking it will be any cheaper. :)
Good and bad day...
Got to the about 97% finished on my CJs cross member from hell today. Cartoon drawings are what I added today as well, just didn't get pics.
Then came home to do some researching on my XJ only to find out the $1000 + worth of lift parts I have laying in my room are useless...
