Hey Fresno -- you ever see a black humvee cruising around your area? A friend of mine lives there and has a hot-rod cummins soft top. He's a super cool guy and a good mechanic if you ever need a hand. Hopefully I'll see ya next month.
I love the beginning when he calls it a great vehicle...which isn't necessarily the same thing as a desirable one. I've never owned one, but hope to someday.
I know what you are saying. Humvees/h1's are pretty awesome in the hands of someone who knows how to wheel them...but like any serious 4x4 out today, most who drive them are posuers.
I don't want to hi-jack this thread about the Toyota...anyone ever drive one? I'd love to know how the 4 wheel...
Humvees were never designed for looks, but to have a 5000 lb payload, stack 3 high in a rail car and go wherever a tank can go (wide track/16+ in of ground clearance). I always liked the utilitarian look and function of many military trucks (especially the military g-wagons) -- they are all...
The Humvee has been around since the early 80's. AM-General was working with Mitsubishi on a humvee platform for the Japanese defense forces in the early to mid 90's. I don't think it really went anywhere...eventually Mitsubishi sold the line to Toyota.
The a-arms are a bit smaller and the...
that is just locking the t-case into low gear. I believe the diffs are the same as the 98 and earlier hummers before AM-General had to add abs and change to a lower bias ratio (from a 4.5:1 to a 2:1 if I remember correctly). They'll go anywhere until you lift a tire, then light pressure on the...
yep...it always comes down to a driver knowing how to drive the truck. I bet the h1 drivers had no clue how to btm and they obviously didn't have lockers. The '99 to '02 trucks need lockers bad as they can't effectively be btm'd anymore because of the addition of abs and the required lower...
I will kid myself and disagree on a few of your cons:
-cramped front seats -- the passenger side is cramped side to side without the knee cutout aftermarket option. Driver's side is fine for me (6'1)
-poor visability...yes, to the rear (especially in a wagon)
-totally agree on the backseats...
Topics like this always bring out passionate responses because we all love what we drive! It might be kind of silly to ask which truck is better as they both have advantages and disadvantages and both are highly capable vehicles.
If you want to learn about the hummer, go here:
the hml...
I feel special...but no wonder it's so lonely here. Thanks Scott for keeping the riff-raff out!!
I don't think one can ever really say one truck is better than another, they all have their advantages and disadvantages. In the end, it's really about what you want to drive and getting it...
not a lot of sympathy from the h1/original hummer crowd for GM (myself included). A friend on an h1 forum posted his feelings which mirror most current owners -- I hope he doesn't mind me posting this here but he said it better than I could have:
"I remember being at Homecoming circa 2000 with...
exactly my point -- any vehicle can be built to go anywhere, that's easy...just expensive. The trick is getting a vehicle that is not necessarily great at any one thing, but good at everything. Not too many vehicles fit that mold.
