    Am I crazy: 1993 4Runner with a 5VZE-FE 3.4L + A340F swap

They don't call it the 3.slow for nothing. But it's all relative to what you're used to. The 3.4 is by far the peppiest engine I've had in any truck or SUV. Try driving an old Toyota pickup or 4runner with the 22RE. Even with stock tires, which most people could get by with but just don't...

    Am I crazy: 1993 4Runner with a 5VZE-FE 3.4L + A340F swap

12 grand! I wouldn't be too broken up about losing out on that. Yes, a very nice combo IMO. Best looking sheet metal 4Runner, no silly rack and pinion steering, but with the better engine. Mileage difference is there, but it's not that great in my experience. About 21 in the 3.4 for...

    3rd Gen. 4Runner - shock question

You may not need shocks. Depends if they're still functioning properly or not. Yes, you can do it yourself. All that is necessary to droop the suspension far enough in the rear is to disconnect the swaybar and the bottom shock mount. Moog suspension parts are usually the most expensive OEM...

    3rd Gen. 4Runner - shock question

They do. I used them both front and back on my 2001 and my quite pleased with the results. It rides so much better now, especially in front, though new shocks in front probably deserve most of the credit. Front coils are a job because you must compress the coil springs to take off and put...

    3rd Gen. 4Runner - shock question

X2 on springs, but if your shocks are original equipment then you should probably replace them too.

    3rd Gen. 4Runner - shock question

Moog coils are cheap and should do the job. It's not a difficult task replacing them either. https://www.amazon.com/Moog-81041-Coil-Spring-Set/dp/B0035R5P3M

Two Bob's Ohio to Prudhoe 2016 - Ram/Hawk, Husky, and Wing.

Stunning photos of Jasper/Banff and Cassiar/Hyder, places I'm fairly familiar with. Really fantastic, thanks much!

    Opinions on the HDJ80?

Winter trails? I thought you had a truck for off roading. What would make the most sense for you, as a winter commuter, would be a Subaru. Oh, and I do know a guy with one of these diesel 80's, RHD, here in Alaska who drives it in winter. He likes it OK, but now wishes it wasn't lifted.

Need help: Is this 1988 4 Runner worth $12k

It's not so bad. There are a ton of them still going around here. 200-300K isn't unusual mileage for this engine. But yeah, newer Toyota engines are better.

Need help: Is this 1988 4 Runner worth $12k

Way too much, IMO. For about half of that you could get a really nice second gen, or best yet a third generation. The 22RE is fairly impotent when competing in today's world of everyone driving at breakneck speeds. If looks are important, I can understand the appeal. My opinion is that...

Help me build my Overland 4Runner

If it has the XREAS suspension, you may just want to add some mild spacers. If it were me, I would stay closer to stock rather than run big tires on a 3 inch lift.

Search for a 60......what do I look for, what to avoid?

Since your state has no emissions testing, you can purchase an old, dirty 2F powered 60 with impunity. The downside of driving these tank like beasts is the acceleration of a cripple and 10 MPG.

    LC or 4R?

Too late. He wanted the LC, he's getting the LC. BTW, the guy didn't say that the LC was built in N. America, he said it was the only Toyota available in N. America with the right stuff. With this, I beg to disagree. Just because something is more heavy duty doesn't mean it's hands down...

level 5 or level 6 build list ?

    What truck you talkin' about?

    LC or 4R?

I wouldn't worry about the reliability. Might need a few more maintenance items, like a timing belt for instance. I'd worry about the horrendous MPG. 4runner is a more nimble vehicle, though they've become fairly bloated themselves in the last decade.

    1st Generation Toyota 4Runner's.....

Even though it's an old post from several months ago I want to second this approval. Wouldn't remove any of the stripes though. Had an '85 of the same color with the 22RE. Great truck, though 4 doors would have been nice.

Need your opinions on this 4runner please...

The place to check for rust is the inner frame rails, around the bumper but especially where the rear suspension attaches near the muffler. Appears to have a lift, which lowers value in my opinion. Not a bad price though, if it checks out.

Question about getting the right 70 series

There is a Land Cruiser Forum called IH8MUD with a 70 series sub section that you may want to check out. Neat looking heavy duty vehicles for sure, but I hear they are prone to rust and that parts are difficult to find.
