Part of that is realizing where the information comes from. Which tests is the Frontier performing poorly on and how how have those tests changed over time? As noted, it's probably the small overlap test which is relatively new. Automakers have been working around to get better results just...
Frontier owner. Yep, its an old design. Yep, the interior is plastic. Yep, it gets poor fuel econ. Yep, it's cheap to buy and cheap to own.
I like mine. I decided i had to have a manual trans, so it was between the Frontier and the Taco. I picked up a leftover 2017 Frontier in early 2018...
You can add airbags and be just fine. 300# tongue weight really isn't very much weight though.
I have a frontier, but i was planning the same as you. I ended up adding OME heavy suspension front and rear (steel bumpers front and rear, sliders, winch up front, ARE cap, etc). With a 1/2"...
There are sooo many better vehicles to bring or just get something over there that you cannot have here.
Fuel cost isn't too much of an issue, at least it wasn't when i was there around 10 years ago. You purchase ration cards on post that you can use at Esso stations (this was in germany)...
They are great trucks that are overlooked. I had one for a bit, ran well, i liked it. Terrible fuel mileage and burned oil regularly, but cheap to buy and run. I'd own another with a manual trans.
Man up, jack up one wheel and check it yourself by rotating it a few times.
All in all, it doesn't matter. 35s with 3.73s or 4.10s suck. I don't care what anyone claims. The only reason they claim otherwise is because they haven't driven with 4.88s.
Nice setup. I had a bosal hitch on my '11 Golf TDI 6-speed manual in that color. car towed a small trailer very easily and still maintained 30+mpg. Hard to beat.
How much stuff do you have in it? It will run quite a bit in it's near empty. the food and such inside help it keep temperature. My 40 (i think that's what it is) will freeze stuff in the back section while i have it set to 27-29F. The little tray above the compressor (closest to the front...
your 265 spare will be fine.
A few things to consider, because i was in a similar situation to you earlier this year. I have a '17 Frontier.
-I believe all 235/85s are going to be E rated. Heavy tire with a heavy sidewall you really don't need.
-16 sizing really decreases your available...
What gears are you thinking of going with? What size tires are you going up to?
Larger tires and the gears are more likely to break the CVs/diff. I don't think you'll really have any issue if you wheel smart and keep near stock tire size.
Pilot 4wd system is pretty good really. IIRC, unlike most of the systems which use one set of clutches or coupler in front of the rear diff, the pilots use 2 sets of clutches, one on each output of the rear diff. So when you hit the button, both clutches engage effectively giving you a locked...
Supposed to be used so you can start off on a steep hill off road if needed.
I use it so i can start the truck without getting in it (after making sure its in neutral). Very convenient.
