Hey you are welcome to comment all you want as I have some fun ideas for canvas bits in this build :]
And you can always join the peanut gallery in the actual SEMA build thread ...
Howdy all....
As part of my SEMA Transit build I want to run an Aluminess front bumper like this...
https://www.aluminess.com/ford/transit-van/front-winch-bumper/
I had one before on an E350 and FJ cruiser and they were plenty strong and the light weight was nice.
Well I was talking with George...
I had a Sportsmobile E350 before and there was much I liked about it, but it is gone and I think the Transit will be a better setup for the highway miles and then you have the IFS which might have less bounce when offroad.
All part of the fun of building something new
Why I am switching from my Taco & Treehouse to a Transit? Something friends have been asking....well at least it starts with a T also :)
I really like the Tacoma, it is a Double Cab Long Bed, which means it is longer in wheelbase and overall length that the Transit 130 RB LR, so I will get a...
Yes :)
You know me Phil, I am always up to something....
Since I do the Disabled Explorers thing as a private person now (the formal non-profit cost too much, too much paperwork and more about running a non-profit than helping people), I wanted something for my son's and I to do that let us work...
How do you get your vehicle in SEMA?
Find a company that likes what you are doing and be their booth vehicle.....oh that sounds easy :) And this doesn't cost the company or you anything.
Find a company that likes what you are doing and be their outside Feature Vehicle (every exhibitor gets 1 of...
Honestly I didn't ask either Quadvan or Quigley before choosing, I knew I would be paying for all or most of the 4wd conversion so I looked at which company would wheel the best.
I really do plan to use my van as an off road machine, living in the southwest and going to remote areas I wanted...
A few fun things about the process for those that might be curious, "How do I get a rig in SEMA?".
First and most important, be willing to pay full price yourself, if you can't afford to do it how will you afford to be a force for your partner companies?
But beyond that you need a few key...
Well I am doing it again, another SEMA project because I can.....regardless of the rationalizations I gave my wife it comes down to the fact that:
I wanted more interior space,
the 2020's will come with some safety things I don't like
the Eco-boost will be harder to get (and I like the 400ftlbs...
Really great trip report, the mining and hot springs will make some fun memories to talk about in the future.
Very cool to have family outings while the kids are young enough to NOT be off in their own rides :)
I am not sure why so many people worry about how SOMEONE ELSE spending their money.
I see amazing houses that sell for millions around me....ok fine for them if that is what that person wants.
Crazy watch prices, fine if that makes someone happy.
Nuts cost of some clothes, no worries is makes a...
If bugs are your concern then a standard awning will seal up to the taco better....but get the biggest awning possible as space is great to have.
I love my Darche 270 awning with walls but there is no way to keep bugs out between the back wall and truck and the front arm and truck.
I have run 255/85/16's on the last couple of rigs including my heavy 1970 Burb, never an issue, held up through 30k of hard rock and highway.
Currently have the same size on my 2017 taco with Treehouse popup camper, also holding up great.
What monitor/controller are you using? Redarc? Just curious about the info you showed, I have a Victron in my current setup and it provides some of that info but not as much.
I am selling a few things to clear up space and pass them along.
First is one of the killer Overland Experience swag bags you only get for taking classes and being the cool dude at Overland Expo :)
Great shape, only used at the event, nice way to carry your maps, journals or look like an...
So for those of us with less massive systems I would think the same principle would still apply of watching the air flow over things with heat sinks?
My current system has my batteries and Victron solar controller in a wood box in my black aluminum camper, I have not tested the surface or air...
At first I thought the same thing...
Then I started looking closer and I haven't seen other fridges with Anderson plugs, with the magnetic fridge cover (so much nicer than zippers or velcro), stackable baskets and a few other things I noticed. Yeah they look like Snomaster but I remember with...
