Yeah they do like to twist and that's what they're designed to do I'm sure. I'm trying to take a route that lets it do just that but with out it taking the bed/camper with it. I can already tell from a couple tests I did with the camper in the bed that leaving the rear portion of the bed...
The idea was to see how much the frame/bed wanted to flex at least partially unhindered hence the test without the last 2 bolts in place. As you can see it's quite bit!
Stuffed side
Flexed side
I'm thinking of running a bolt through the bed, bracket and a spring to incorporate a bit of...
Still gotta fairly long laundry list to check off but I got the camper on the bed for a test fit. I'm pretty happy overall, it sits a wee bit high over the cab compared to before but not too bad. Before I mounted the camper I did a bit of flex testing after bolting down 4 of the 6 mounting...
Still a bunch of little stuff to do like extending the fuel fillers, rear bed mounts lined up with some kind of brackets, wiring, finish diamond plate trim etc...
Feels good to finally make it to this point though!
This happened today, glad I have a 4x4 and a tow strap since the forklift got stuck in the woodchips constantly where I'm storing the bed. Hope to have the new bed mounted this weekend!
Well today wasn't fun but necessary, had to grind scrape and scrape some more rinse and repeat etc...etc.. found a bit more cancer as well so I did a quick surgery on that. She's pretty much ready for a couple coats of Chassis Saver paint tomorrow once it all dries.
The white stuff on the patch...
Got a good start on the nasty under belly of the bed today, I luckily have access to a forklift and my buddy helped me get er tipped on end so I can go after 3 decades worth of crud and rust.
It's pretty obvious the bed lived on a diesel in it's previous life due to all the black oily build up...
Thanks! It gets a little better each day.
Got some upgrades done to the suspension yesterday, I bought the truck with some HD Bilstien shocks and while it handled pretty damn good for a big ol camper rig in the twisty stuff (tarmac) it was a bit rough on the really bumpy dirt stuff.
I reached...
Thanks for the encouragement!
Had a bit of a set back after stacking on my dirt bike about 4 weeks ago, got a couple fractures in my foot and sprained my thumb and shoulder pretty good. As soon as I could stand it though I got back to work on the truck bed but was only able to get a couple hours...
Thanks! I just talked with Bryan at Alaskan campers (who's awesome) about how they do their service body rigs and they usually bolt through the floor too, but we got to discussing options and now Im liking the idea of going through the side of the camper which he thinks is a great idea and said...
Thanks for the reply, mine has different style jack plate/ tie down points than the corner style you speak of but I agree that would probably make it pretty easy since the camper corners would line up with the bed corners. I'm pretty stoked I'm at least able to leave these jack plates attached...
I'm in the home stretch of finishing my service body rig and am trying to figure out the best way of fixing the camper to the bed, Could you please share some info how yours is tied down? Mine is SRW but I'm tying to get some ideas. Thanks!
I'd be very interested to see pics of this as I am in the home stretch of fitting an Alaskan camper in a service bed on my F250 and the jury is still out on how I'll do the tie down points.
Thanks!
Jeff
