    Some basic maintenance questions

Maybe you could part it out on Craigslist and use the money to get a Yota. That's probably the best thing you can to that thing. :sombrero:

    Some basic maintenance questions

Put a quart of ATF in the engine instead of one quart of motor oil. Let the motor idle for half an hour, don´t drive it or rev it, just idle. We just want the motor to get hot and the oil/ATF mix to flow through it. Now drain the oil, remove the oilfilter and drop the oilpan, clean out the...

    Which gps for transworld?

I´d definitely recommend a large Garmin unit. There are many GPS devices that work great on major roads and in cities, but Garmin will never let you down.

    Adding Driving Lights

You can get the Hella 4000 with cornering beams. Those are used by many rally drivers to give them good side view while also dispersing the light forwards.

    Adding Driving Lights

If you look at used light you can score a set of Hella 4000 for 100-150$ IPF Super Rally 930 pair can be had for 200-300$ used. How big of a light can you fit on your light-bar?

    Vehicle Security

There is one thing I forgot to mention. Installing piezo sirens or piezo buzzers under the dash and in the cargo area can make it pretty much impossible for the thief to "work" in there. They´re obnoxiously loud, annoying things that are easy to hide and can push you to insanity in seconds...

    Vehicle Security

In my old VW Golf III, I had a kill switch under the gearstick boot. It was located where reverse is on regular H pattern gearboxes. You could just barely feel it but there was no way to see it. On my old Hilux I had a kill switch located near the fuse-panel under the dash. Another switch that...

    Lighting question

I had Hella 4000s with 100W halogens, both euro beam and pencil on a previous rig. I had two of each and the euro beams were much more useful. I now have two euro beams on my Land Cruiser with 55W 3000K HID and they outshine 35W factory HID Hella 4000s. The beam pattern is not as good as the...

    Tires: Wide or Narrow?

No we don´t use them on our 4x4s. We use chains on heavy equipment and commercial trucks. Many use studded tires, mine are only siped. Chains would cause you to dig down too easily and they´re not that great at speed.

    Tires: Wide or Narrow?

That all depends on the circumstances and conditions. We use wide tires for snow here. When the snow is deep enough for your vehicle to lay on its frame and still not get contact with the ground below you definitely want to be on top of the snow. When deflated, a tires contact patch gets...

Has anyone run siped MT's in the winter?

I ran 33x12.5R15 Goodyear Wrangler MT/Rs on my old Hilux. They were siped in the middle lugs and the outer lugs were untouched. They worked great like that. I later siped halfway through the outer lugs and put studs in the other half of the lug. Then they were awesome. Now I´m running...

Does the Prado (GX470) belong Here

I have a KZJ95 and its badged and marketed here as a Land Cruiser 90. The off-road crowd here refers to the 90, 120 and 150 Cruisers as "Barbie Cruisers". They´re not heavy duty like the bigger "real" Land Cruisers. The 70 is not considered a "Barbie Cruiser", its stout as hell and has a SFA...

    Inexpensive Lighting Options.

I have 2 Hella 4000 Euro beams and 1 Hella 4000 spot light with 3000K 55W HIDs on the front of my Cruiser. The euro beams light up a huge area in front of the vehicle and throw light out to the sides like cornering beams. The spotlight throws light so far ahead that I can see roadmarkers for...

    Fog Light Q

If it were me I´d get projector foglights. They will have a true fog light pattern and a great cut-off even after being HID converted. Hella Micro DE and a HID kit or the Micro DE Xenon would be good. I have IPF projector foglights on my KZJ95, they were good with halogen bulbs but now with...

    Big guy bike

As others have said the wheels are an important consideration when you´re heavy. I weigh 275lbs and I have given up on the traditional wire spokes in favor of solid spoke wheels like the MAG wheels used on BMXs. I have yet to damage or bend one of those on my hard-tail.

The far too easy 'Hi-Lift Jack' stowage solution

I keep my 60" jack, 120cm alu-prybar and a shovel on the back. The jack never gets so dirty that it can´t be cleaned quickly with water from a nearby creek, snow or some WD40 and rags. And I usually keep it lubed anyway, so dirt does´nt stick that hard. There is a Hi-lift, prybar and shovel...

    Passage of Hope in Iceland

Passage of Hope (Vonarskarð) is one of the routes that will be closed because of the Vatnajökul Natural Park. It seems like our ministers want to shut Icelanders out so the tourist companies can trailer tourists around. Many places in Iceland have been trampled and damaged by tourist traffic...

    Sequoia lifted w/tires and wheels!

Nice looking Sequoia indeed. I was wondering, is the Sequoia in concept like the old 4Runner? Is the Sequoia a wagon Tundra like the 4Runner was/is a wagon Hilux?

Roof rack wiring for 95 series.

Yeah, aerodynamics are important in a Cruiser. :sombrero: Thats a nice looking connector though. I was thinking about running the wires thru the clamp/gland and having a Anderson connector or Power Poles bolted to the underside of the box. Then having a connector on the control cable so the...

Roof rack wiring for 95 series.

I plan on mounting a box on one side of the roof rails/bars and have shovel and ski holders on the other side. The box will not go all the way to the backdoor and no further than mid-front doors. I called Arctic Trucks and they recommended drilling the roof under the box and using one of those...
