A comparison of Defender, Wrangler, G-Class and 4Runner by the numbers

Based on what I've read, they screwed up the ground clearance numbers.....looks like it should be 11.5" according to other sources. That's one of the big advantages of IFS/IRS....

I don’t see any reason a Defender 130 pickup would need to cost more than the 110, it’s probably less material.

It would be more expensive because they would need to completely redesign the monocoque chassis to maintain its stiffness with a big chunk cut out of the rear and a flappy thing on hinges at the back end instead of a load-bearing arch with a door in it. And that would necessitate another production line, another crash certification campaign, and a whole host of other costs associated for what would likely be a relatively small number of sales in the US, Oz, and SA.

I believe they are correct for coil sprung models. As far as I know the 11.5 is with the air suspension fully extended.

As far as I can tell, all the 110s on the USA website come with air suspension standard. No coils.

My local dealership says coils are not an NAS option; possible to see it on the D90 but don't hold your breath. They also said they can't confirm or deny the "NO DIESEL 4 banger" for NAS in the future so that tells me they are just not sure or won't say or can't say which means I wait! lol

It looks like you are correct, no mention of coils in the NA Brochure, and only on the 90 (X excluded) in the UK brochure.

Yeah, but I feel like all max ground clearance numbers that come from IFS/Air Bags should come with an asterisk * that says, it's only this when maxed out on it's tippy toes :)

When all the kissing and hugging over the new Land Rover stops the reality will kick in,

Vehicles that are good for remote travel are not those with computers that process 20.000 tasks
Not air suspension,
Side fuel cans don’t make it better
dog ramp doesn’t make it better

Best Overland vehicle is the most reliable vehicle, field repairable, parts available, a vehicle that every small town mechanic can work on it,

so stop your bull crap comparing old defender to this thing,
Old defender you could fix in the most remote villages of Africa.

Just except the fact that this is a lot more complex new Land Rover and after warranty is expired it will be nighttime just like any other new Land Rover.
times are changing, so are the vehicles.

oh and don’t forget that old defender was never made for overland use, it just happen to be rugged farm vehicle and ppl chose to use that.
Take the garden hose and wash inside vehicle, ( don’t ever try that in this new Land Rover ) I refuse to cal it a defender!

Real deal vs fake

The best walkaround video so far. PowerfulUK do a lot of aftermarket products, so they easily spot various functional/design issues

The feel of a turbodiesel is effortless. The delivery is so smooth at low speed - many NA gas engines you have to keep the revs high in the power and in low gear with the diffs locked, but diesels just pull. You don't need so much to drag boulders or pull stumps. But yeah, the range is extremely important too.
The modern gas engines are starting to best the diesels in low rpm torque. Especially with the Ford hybrid system. Cryst the new plugin Aviator is just shy of 500Hp and 600ft lb of torque! Thats crazy!!

Were talking ftlb numbers in the 1ton Pickup zone just a few yrs ago and HP numbers that were all the rage between the muscle cars. I like diesel I really do but jeezusss the power and torque capability of these new transmissions and hybrids is going to be a game changer. Granted its complicated and very expensive!!! But holly hell can you imagine this 110 with 490hp and 600ft lb of torque?

??? 104 pages and counting! :):(:p:eek::rolleyes:o_O:unsure::ROFLMAO:?????

Having been an occasional fly on the wall for the past few days, I'll say this is just as good, if not better than, anything on Netflix right now - very entertaining and informative, but mostly entertaining. Thanks all!

"It's not a defender." "It's a poor man's G-Wagen." "No, it's another soccer mom car." "Well my JK... ...Squirrel!" " No! I'm an amateur zoologist and that's definitely a Pika!!!"
