Crossing the Andes

Stephanie and me, along with our good friends Dave and Anne will be traveling to South America in January, and will be meeting up with Jorge Valdes from this forum (and also a great friend of ours and Overland Journal's South America photographer).

We will be arriving in Santiago on the morning of the 12th, and will be spending the night at the Intercontinental, before leaving with two Defenders to cross the Andes and into Argentina. I know we have several members and subscribers in Santiago, so it would be great to meet-up for dinner, either at the start of the trip or the end, Sunday the 24th.

This is mostly a vacation, but also a scouting trip for our further exploration of SA in late 2010 or early 2011.

We will post images and progress on this blog, and will also have the SPOT tracking.

Are the Defenders Rentals?

Jorge is starting a company, called Terra Ultima, which will allow access to vehicles like the Defenders and support and logistics. We are using Jorge's defenders.

I just took a look at Jorge's web pages, and read the description of the Pantanal to Altiplano tour.

This route is a marvelous sampling of habitat and history! Sounds to me like a photographer's dream vacation. I hope Jorge will lead trips like this in the future.
