Diesel Grenadier

I would rather have a diesel than a gas Grenadier. Does anyone know, if you purchase one overseas, can it then be imported to the USA?
you would think that a modern BMW engine would meet emission standards.

OTOH I wonder if, for example, one pulled the 2.5L twin turbo diesel out of my USA version 09 X5, would it physically bolt in? Just as far as physical dimensions - motor mounts, transmission attachment etc?
