Future Toyota 4x4s for the US Market

They should make a future version of the FJ with SFA and available in a longer wheel base, and then we'd be golden - maybe a slightly more older LC body style. I am real interested to see the next iteration of that vehicle - whenever that may be.

I always wanted a diesel cruiser. Definitely not a money saver. I have not driven anything that comes close to the 100 in terms of durability, reliability, correct size for what I use it for, etc. I will have this 100 along time. Already owned it longer than any other vehicle, 6 years and 100k miles. I test drive a lot of vehicles for friends and the newer vehicles are not built to last, they are built to be replaced. The car companies have to do this to stay in business. Land Cruisers are built to last.

It depends on the vehicle, there was a time when we were lucky to get 100,000 miles out of a vehicle, now they are seeing 2-300,000 miles easy. My Tacoma has 265K on the clock.

Toyota needs a bare bones work horse in the 30k range with turbo diesel. Not going to happen but would be great for this country.

That would be nice.

Yes, my 100 is at 196k miles.

It's almost brand new!! My odometer shows 630,000 kms which is in excess of 400,000 miles.

Our neighbor here in Sierra Leone has your vehicle. A 2002 HDJ105 in left hand drive. That's the diesel engine, solid axle, stripped down version of the '100 series. The only problem is it has been butchered electrically at some time in the past as well as worked hard and put away wet.

SFA is not going to happen. There is just no advantage for 99.9% of the target market. Even for many of us on here (just look at the completed expeditions and adventures section and see where a SFA would be served better). There is a reason why many trucks/SUV's have gone to IFS and ZERO have gone back to SFA.

Although, I was a bit surprised that Toyota went back to manual t-case levers in the 4Runners.

and why the Tacoma hasn't had the return of a manny t-case, is baffling. 4Runners are more street queens than the Tacoma, doesn't
make any sense to me at least.

I'm assuming if/when the Tacomas get the updated dual VVTi 1GR, they will (hopefully) get the manual t-case lever.

They already do, the 76 Series, it's sold in many countries outside of the US.

If Toyota thought these bare bone vehicles would sell in the US they would make damn sure they were compliant and would sell them but the general US buying public don't want them. Remember people on here are a small niche market that in many cases don't buy new vehicles.

Yep, Average Joe American wants nothing to do with anything that barbaric...probably can't even get 64 ounce cup holders in that thing.

long the lines of the conversation I had with a co-worker about all the "intelligent" stuff they put on vehicles now like anti-tailgating, auto-parking, etc. What happens when these drivers get in a vehicle without some of these things and totally forget that fact?

When/if you do, it is a little frightening actually...pretty sure that is where our society is heading...
