Agreed. And both of those engines are simple, and dead nuts reliable. So far the 6.8 however has more track record.
For resale maybe consider a F350. We bought our F250 used and to find a similar F350 we would have had to spend another $15K on the used market. Doesn't make any sense but that's how it was.Probably 6.8 is sufficient, but at the point I'm at cost wise what's the extra $2k for resale and being able to say Godzilla?
There are two gas engines for the 2023 Super Duty. One is the 7.3L "Godzilla" engine and the other is a brand new 6.8L V8 based on the 7.3L Godzilla. I think the new 6.8L V8 comes with a lighter duty transmission than the 7.3L Godzilla does.
Looks like it would save about 6K over XLT. But, you'd get other stuff going with the XLT as well. Not sure if STX also included 360 cameras. I originally ordered my truck w/o them thinking it was a froo froo option I didn't need. Decided to add them last minute and I can say they are honestly one of my favorite features about the truck. Def worthwhile to get them.Which in turn use different transfer cases, afaik. Also rumour has it the 6.8 has a cast vs steel crankshaft.
Not sure it would matter much, considering the HP difference. It's made for fleet in the XL, keeping costs down and maybe fuel consumption. Both engines made in Windsor, so that's a good thing 🇨🇦
As you add options to the XL, the XLT trim (which now incl 7.3 and 4x4) starts to look like a better buy. Same as it ever was, except more so now.
eg If I'm seeing it correct the OP's config:
XL SCSB 4x4 7.3, STX is $75,724 CAD
vs XLT SCSB 4x4, 7.3 is 70,790 CAD
Of course as Grass' points out STX is the cheapest way to get the blackout and has the LEDs etc
I sure wish I had the skills to do that to a brand new truck.Check this build out.
Oreo, the Tremor Ford should have built
As fun as my Jeep Gladiator is, it is seriously lacking in power. Well, 7.3L of push rod V-8 will scratch that itch. Unfortunately, 4,900 lb of payload capacity plus radius arms do not make for a comfortable ride. I can do something about that! This is my Ford F350 “Oreo” that is getting a...irate4x4.com
Oh absolutely. It should be standard on all trucks for what they charge now...the LED headlamps which, frankly if they are so good - and improve safety - should really be std at this price (IMO).
Good point. The LED running lights will still make a huge difference though.Just a point of clarification, the STX package does not come with LED headlamps. Just LED fogs and running lights. That’s what I get from the description anyway.

$460 biweekly? I wish! lolUgh. Trying to get a shop to do rust repair on a tall roof van in this city.
Hopefully some normalcy comes back to the vehicle market by next spring.
Our mortgage payments were $460 bi weekly on our last term. Realistically looking at value of the van and cost to upfit the truck, and doing napkin math, payments will be the same for a 5 year term on an STX 7.3 😔
That's why we haven't moved. Even the modest houses we are looking at will give us a 150-200k mortgage again at 6%. No thanks.$460 biweekly? I wish! lol
