Had a chance to compare my 270XT and a buddy's Shadow awning side by side during a campout in the Maze district of Canyonlands few weeks back. We were having wind gusts, close to 30mph, I reckon. Weather report kept warning us about 50mph gusts but we were protected enough to not have experienced that.
The shade cover on both of our awnings flapped quite a bit as expected, due to the huge area. The Shadow awning's rafters moved up/down quite a bit as well vs mine staying pretty rigid. We both guyed our awnings down so he might not have done as tight of a job as me but his awning survived just fine, no worse for wear. He wasn't even concerned, which speaks volume of the Shadow awning.
I REALLY like the rear area coverage of the Shadow awning vs the 270XT or my previous Batwing. Both of mine have a diagonal coverage in the rear vs his has straight coverage and it lines up with the body line of the passenger side of his 200 series. This may sound trivial but having that extra rain coverage is uber nice, if it isn't raining sideways! You can make this out in the first pic below.
In the pic below, my 80 is on the left, his 200 is on the right.

I pulled the trigger on the Bush Company 270 XT Max awning. I have been using an ARB 2500 for years with great success so I was a little reluctant to try something else. After getting one shipped to the house the first thing I noticed was Wow this thing is HUGE and HEAVY! I know the stats are all over the board but I didn't realize just how large it is compared to the ARB.
The second thing, and I knew this going into it, mounting it was going to be a challenge. I have three rhino rack HD load bars that my RTT sits on. They were plenty strong for the ARB. I had to fabricate the mounting brackets for the load bars. In doing so I also needed to add some bracing because the stress on the brackets is pretty great.
Here are a few pics of it's first test fit. I will have to take it down to paint the brackets and to punch the holes in the bag so the bag fits; but first impression is that it provides a lot of great cover. The other thing that was immediately noticeable is the silver reflective lining on the top. The temps under the awning were surprisingly cool
So here are a few pics of the test fit. I might need to add another load bar; Ali suggested it and he might be right. The front of the awning has a lot of stress on it and I'm noticing it could be braced a little better. I'll see as I play around with it.

Looking great dude and congrats on the purchase. I didn't buy the same version as yours so mine is missing the front hinge+arm and less overhanging load stress on that load bar.
When my awning is deployed, I can clearly see the 4th Thule bar bending ever so slightly under the moment arm. I'll need to insert another tubing inside the 3rd & 4th Thule bar in order to distribute the load better.
On a side note, I'm not sure I like their cover solution. I read their reasons for doing it the way they did but I like how everyone else in the market attaches their covers to the front of the backplane. It's been working fine but just a "meh" from me on that point.
I've deployed this awning many, many times in the last few camping trips and it is so nice to NOT have to worry about ANY wind. Agreed Alia, I think the bag situation is a little slack based on the price and the total package. However, I am willing to work with it.
Did my final test fit this morning with the RTT in place and all brackets fully mounted and painted. I'll snap another pic. I was able to slide the entire awning body rearward just a few inches and that gave the front arm more rigidity (not sure on the engineering terms). I think I'm going to be able to get away with three load bars, time will tell. I did extend the two outer bars as far apart from each other as possible and still have the ability to accommodate the mounting track on the RTT. I will try to snap a pic of that as well.
The awning just barely clears my high lift jack which is mounted on a slee bumper. So keep that in mind for anyone with an 80 series and a slee bumper.

Another reason for adding the 4th load bar is to reduce the PSI of load on the rain gutter as mine is slowly deforming with the weight up top. If I can utilize a long leg (front to back) that makes a solid contact with the entire rain gutter, that'd be ideal. The Prinsu rack utilizes this type of leg, as well as other rack manufacturers using the 80/20 extruded alum pieces.
On a side note, I sent Bush company an email to see if they offer a wall kit that we can purchase in the USA. No reply as of two weeks now!!

I did the same thing about 3 weeks ago. Still no response. I did ask them another question previously and they did respond but it took a
few weeks. 
Yesterday I think I finally got everything mounted. Tent is positioned as close to the awning as possible and still allow my latch on the RTT to open. Load bars are spaced as far apart as possible and still land under the RTT mounting rail. Next time will be a real test in the wild!

Hey y’all! Love this thread and sorry if a new one has surfaced that I missed but I was looking for more information on the ostrich wing as i would rather spend the extra 500$ and not have to do anything but swing it out.

Whats better the Wraptor 4k or the OVS? Seem like they are very similar, are there build quality differences?

So I have had the ovs nomadic for a while now. I chose it because it can be free standing and it has the most coverage of any I found. I have it on my high cube van and I really do love the awning. I have had it out in many weather conditions and have never and probably never would set up the poles/guy lines. If it gets nasty I pack it up. If I am leaving for the day, I just undo the straps and leave it hanging, then stretch them out again when I get back... takes no time at all. The awning comes with some brackets that will probably work on many roof racks... I built my own roof rack and just welded brackets onto it when building, pretty much the only purpose of the rack is for the awning... |my roof is entirely solar panels so I don't store anything up there. I also set the roof rack back on the van a bit so the awning doesn't stick out so much and also it provides overlap so there is no gap for rain to come though (I highly suggest doing the same on any install)
Overall this awning seems really great and very strong in mild to moderate breeze. However this awning has a huge downside. It is absolutely horrible to pack up, you need to pack it EXACTLY right in order to get the zipper closed. Standing on the ground it would be possible, but I have to put mine away from the roof because of the height. Also you cannot fit the extra poles in the bag (stupid!). As you can see in that picture I have it wrapped up in a bungee cord because at the time that is the best solution I had. I now have permanently affixed cam buckle straps on the rack and I stow it with that and the back just draped over (under the straps)... It works but kinda lame that that is how I have to store it. I think, knowing this and now knowing of the bush company xt max awning, I probably would have gone with that one. However, I don't think it was available when I bought this one and the ovs awning is considerable cheaper.
Either way I am very happy with the awning, the quality is good and it is nice and big.... just wish they would have made the bag bigger... I might make my own someday... but probably not.

I'm looking to add a 270 canopy to my 2006 Ford E150. So much valuable info here; thanks to all of you who contribute!
Has anyone had hands-on experience with both the Quick pitch weathershade 270 and 23zero peregrine? Im having a hard time understanding the size of the 23zero peregrine and the material of the Quick pitch weathershade 270. Looking for the best protection from rain with the largest coverage and ease of opening/closing. Any insight on these two would be helpful.
Also, i need guidance on how to mount the canopy. Currently i have just a bare roof. I'm hoping i can get cross bars that mount to my roof gutter, but wondering if there are certain dimensions of the cross bars i needs to be able to accommodate to mounting the canopy. Also not sure if i need just 2 cross bars or 3?
