Full loaded diesel Summit = 56,950...

That is getting into Mercedes ML350 BlueTec territory...

Banks has already been working on this engine for some time. I'd think they would be able to squeeze out another 20-50hp/100tq and 1-3mpg's out of the 3.0L.

Scott,

Thanks for the great review and fast turnaround time.
It's very, very exciting to hear this engine is everything we had been hoping for.

The future for Diesels in North America is looking up every day.

Like I said... Jeep would be losing money if they offered a diesel in the Wrangler.

It's one thing to offer a diesel in a luxury suv, It's another to offer it in a $21-$30K jeep wrangler. The engine would add an additional $5-7K and a small fraction of wrangler owners would actually pay that. I'm sure they have gone over this plenty of times and realized that there isn't enough profit there to justify putting a diesel in a wrangler. They aren't not doing it just to piss owners off.

I will be shocked if this new diesel makes up more than 10% of their Grand Cherokee sales here in the US.

I can guarantee you that they will not produce a product they will loose money on. 10 years ago people wouldn't have believed that you could sell at 40k dollar JK and viola. Perceptions change. I would likely pony up for a diesel JK and drop 45k. Others would opt for a gasser. Just like pick-up trucks. Who would have thunk a work truck can push $55k. Nuts.

Very true. Unfortunately, a diesel powerplant is no longer a value option. You do use LESS fuel, which is obviously good for the environment and allows for less payload dedicated to fuel storage. . .

Safer to transport too.

I know this has been brought before, and I think I know the answer. Places like Mexico and 3rd World countries are pretty much a no-no for the new
generation of diesels, correct?

Any idea of the cargo capacity? I see the towing capacity has increased - wondering if the cargo did as well???

Can't find it anywhere on the web...

Thanks.

:sombrero: I think that some of you might know of my wonderment concerning the insane drive to get a diesel in a JK--

Some of you might know of my '08 JKUR and it's mods-

I would appreciate it, if anyone could tell me of any advantages in a diesel, over my 3.8L v6-gasser

Other than some wild claims about the environment-

Let the rain begin !

The advantages of small-displacement diesels are numerous, including better low-end torque, better range (fuel economy), safer fuel transport (safer fuel overall). Diesels also manage a load better with less performance impact. Our diesel Land Cruiser gets twice the fuel economy of the 80 series we had.

:sombrero: I understand all of that, but

The only advanyage in your statement is fuel economy and that one isn't far from my 15mpg towing and 18 mpg at 65mph, my JKUR weight is 5150lbs-UNLOADED-yes a little better, but no reason for a change to a diesel-

It may be advantageous to you because of your travel--but thats not normal-certainly not for me most of my trips are from 400 to 1200 miles and gas is no problem-
