off-roader
Expedition Leader
Def interested in the Hollister event & would have probably half a dozen or more friends who would also be interested in attending.
I've been going on 4x4 trips for nearly a decade now running everything from easy scenic trails like Death Valley / Mojave Trail to harder trails like the Rubicon, Moab Rim Trail, etc. In all cases they have been camping in wilderness areas w/out camp grounds.
Will you be offering classes at this event? Since there's an $85 fee, I'm wondering what I can learn at this event (in addition to meeting others of like mind & gaining camaraderie)?
While I certainly have a lot of wheeling under my belt, I know there is probably a lot of bad techniques I've learned & if you are doing training, I'd like to see courses on..
- Vehicle recovery including using a hilift, strap, winch, sand ladder, etc.
- How to 'spot' vehicles through difficult terrain
- Techniques on how to best pack & secure your gear for off road travel with or without drawers in the back.
- What additional maintenance to do to prepare your rig for an off road trip
- Maybe even a brief (1/2 hr-1hr) driving technique training with the level of difficulty determined by the driver's capabilities
- How to navigate using a gps, compass and topo map.
I'm hoping it won't be to just see what's available in gear unless it's information you can't get from viewing websites & reading literature.
