Use your new found confidence and replace the pesky heater hose. Although I have not done it, I have seen it done. It was really simple. Once the head is off, man, there it is, plain to see, in all its glory.

Good Luck!

Dale! Good to see your typing around!

Fortunately, as Dave says above, I have the 3FE and don't need to worry about the PHH as the 1FZ folks do. Small sacrifice for less power :D

All the parts came in from the oh so wonderful CDAN at American Toyota in ABQ, NM...top noth service from him as usual. Bad thing is though, I forgot to order a gasket, and he is off to Cruise Moab this week...luckily the local dealer ordered without hassle and it will be here mid-week.

I found, on inspection of the new parts to old, that the radiator is not OEM, nor any of the heating/cooling hoses. I ordered all new ones from Dan, so I am set. I'll take the old radiator to a local shop for repair, and set it aside as a spare; most likely the same with the water pump if the rebuild kit isnt too expensive. All the other hoses are trashed!

One thing I have started, is that with every gasket I get, I've started a template book of sorts. I trace out the gasket before I use it, label it, and put the sheet in a binder for reference, just in case.

I also received the new side castings for my XRC-10. After an eventful afternoon of winching, these were needed as the winch broke part way through the 2nd pull. The cool part is that the winch continued to function without issue for another 15 or so pulls, at one point pulling a very load through some very nasty stuff.

Like an 80 with a 62 strapped to it? That kind of load? :peepwall:

Thanks for the free learnin'. So, only the "new improved version" has a PHH. Nice to know.

The memory of seeing that hose without a head in the way was just too good to not share. And I saw it 6 times, in a HG replacement marathon.

Oh, and Fergie, that little voice saying "get an 80" at each crossroads in your former ride was, perhaps, me. Good choice, and I'm enjoying the progress.

Take a deep breath of clean air for me.

Every time I look at this thread it gets me all pumped up to roll up the 'ol sleeves this summer and get busy with some work needed on my FJ80. Thanks for the inspiration as usual!

I can email them to you. You know as well as I do that they aren't very PC.
Yeah, email the photos first...then we'll see what actually goes public.

Kristian - You should have stopped in Flagstaff, I would have let you practice on mine!

Nice build report! I enjoyed catching up on the latest.

Question: What is the inner tube on the jack handle for? To tie the handle down?

Love how the HiLift is being used like a big carpenter's clamp! Will remember that one.

Jim, the idea to use the highlift came courtesy of Gary or Steve(welding), but I can't remember which. The tube is to keep the handle from rattling, and from rubbing against the body of his Nissan.

We made extra sure to not weld the wrong pieces together since all the joints looked the same!

Spent friday night putting a lift on the GWB; still need to do the bushings as soon as someone finds his GD phone and calls me back...

This is a shot of the 80 before the all the winter time mods;

And from today, after I finished rewiring the fridge plug, and removing the winch to service the broken housing:

We'll be off to Baja in a few weeks, so I'm rushing to get things done.

I had to go to the outlaws today. I forgot it was Mother's day when I spoke with you about doing the bushings. I did leave my phone at home, though.

Looks great, Gavin!

Going to wear these tires out first? What size will you go with?

Counting down the days, buddy!

Looks like your tires shrunk, Fergie!

:)
With a 3FE, that would be a good thing!

Louis - Thanks dude. I'll stick with this size for a while; I've got some ATs coming from another ExPo member, and the current ones are going to a different ExPo member in town.

Can't wait to see you here!
