Is there any evidence to this stuff actually working? I'm just skeptical if the primary evidence of it working is just smoke... Any studies?

My upper intake pendulum looked clean when I had it off replacing the valve cover gaskets, but that is all I have no info on the heads or valves. No MPG increase just a smoother idle.

Huh, but couldn't that be just as likely from proper maintenance?

On the "MOAB" thing, are you talking about a specific website where folks like to spell it that way? Or where are you seeing folks do that? Is it just within the Nissan community, or more globally?

If we're thinking of the some of the same places, it's been a big pet peeve of mine ... I think for some, it stems from their only exposure to the town coming through G.O.N.E. Moab. The logo for the event for a while has been:
fetch
... which is great as far as logos go, and I like it a lot. But folks, I think, see it and for whatever reason, let the formatting creep into their own lexicon without thinking about how the name of a town/region is not part of the larger acronym.

But if you're seeing that done outside of referencing that particular event, or worse, outside of a few isolated cases within the "Nissan Community"; then I've got nothin' to help explain it and I'd be equally bewildered.

Anyway ... hopefully the Seafoam helps you out a bit. Am I remembering correctly that there's a bit of a recommendation floating around, that one should only put it into the oil just before a change is due? Or more specifically: that if you want to Seafoam the oil, you should change it soon after?

I've seen it done on tons of offroad forums. Here on ExPo (Almost every section), on Landroverforums, on Clubfrontier, Nissanoffroad.net, Tacomaworld, etc. I even have buddies here in MT who are old American iron fans (Pre 1995 Chevy, Ford, Dodge) who spell it like that... I want to hit them with frying pans. These are, incidentally, the same people that refer to my Frontier as "Jap Crap." Ignorance is infuriating.

Ha! It's become a big pet peeve of mine too!

Thanks for the encouragement! I'm hoping it makes a difference, if even a small one. I'm planning on running it a couple hundred miles and then changing the oil. I'm due for a change soon anyway.

I treat the intake and the gas at least once a year, if not more in the gas. I Put a full can through the intake and work the throttle keeping it running just till the end of the can then I let it stall out. let it sit for 15 to 20 min then I start it back up and let it run. I got some good smoke on my first few treatments but now I see drastically less. I've never put it into the crankcase oil as I've been running good synthetic oil the whole time I've had the truck..

So how exactly do you run it through the intake? I'm not sure if that would work on mine, might get into the supercharger oil.

I have been running Mobil 1 high mileage ever since I got the truck, but there was 107k miles of, as far as I can tell, mediocre maintenance on it. So I'm just trying to get it in as good condition as I can before summertime.

It could be, but I've seen enough instances to make me actually believe that it helps. I'm generally skeptical of "snake oil" kind of fluid products. You know, the various "mpg increasers" and products like that. But Seafoam actually seems to do what it claims to do.

Just remove one of the vacuum lines, forget what I used. You need two people. Rev the engine up a bit and fire the stuff into the vacuum line until it basically stalls itself out. Wait a few minutes and fire it up, usually is a smoke show.

You pull the vacuum line off the end, not where its connecting to the intake plenum, you wantit to go back through the intake.

Makes sense. I might have to give that a shot.

There is a million youtube videos. Either my truck was really clean or I didn't do something right because I didn't get anywhere near the smoke coming out

I'll see how this treatment goes. It seems to have smoothed it out already. It was idling rough before, it seems to have smoothed out a fair bit.

My Fuelly app made me a happy man today. 48 degree weather, howling winds, winter blend, and 30/70 city/highway combo. 128 miles on 9 gallons. 14.2 mpg.

Now that's more like it. :D

I plan on doing dizzy cap/rotor soon, maybe exhaust too. With luck, it will all help.

I use this one and run a full can down it. I never did the 1/3 gas 1/3 intake 1/3 oil treatment. For me it is one can in the Vac line and one in the gas tank. I also change my PCV every year and it may be overkill, as it is never realy dirty. I would try to find a line post super charger, like you said about the SC oil.
